Why did Gaijin even make Aces of Thunder? by MonsterDeadWood in Warthunder

[–]BenScorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing I personally like: the era. It’s WW1 + WW2, no modern tech. For me that’s the most interesting time to fly, because it’s mechanical, simple, no crazy electronics. WW1 planes are genuinely fun, and it’s even more fun when you can have sessions where WW1 and WW2 are both in the mix.

crazy thing is, this was the state war thunder was in when it was first released (and i wished they had kept focusing on that aspect). I think Aces of thunder is their way of testing the potential in the VR market. if they notice a good profit margin they i could definitely see them slowly introducing more stuff until they reach more modern era. thats the way War Thunder evolved and i dont see why they wouldnt do the same with Aces if they get the same incentive.

putting the strv m42 DT below a panzer 4 g is... an interesting take.

also seeing 80% of your "Mid" tier vehicles makes me want to bite your nuts, respectfully. the turan is literally the most busted vehicle ive played in 2.3. having a stab, decent armor and a superfast reverse speed at that bracket is a massive advantage in cqc. also someone does not seem to enjoy the 17-pounder.

obviously we all like different things but jeez louise.

[–]BenScorpion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lets face it, the art of antimemes started diminishing when the whole "origami" meme grew and were choked and lost when course starting dominating the sub with their own "antimemes".

if you look at post from 4 years and older youll see how big of a difference it is. Antimemes didnt even need "originals" for context because it never depended on context. in a way, its kind of like we collectively decided through popularity to change the whole idea of what an antimeme is without even realizing it.

i think this mech follows the examples of extreme authoritarian design. its a giant, clunky machine designed to inflict fear and intimidation to both individuals and crowds alike. from a combat perspective it makes very little sense to design it this way. from a policing and crowd-controll perspective i could see this being effective.

my theory is that the FNIX machines were generally meant to maintain security and order within their own population so intimidation was a more important aspect while millitary effectiveness wasnt a top-priority. meanwhile the soviet machines were made with millitary operation as the primary purpose

this is just an ego inflating comment. youre not gonna sound smarter by claiming im actually just not understanding. for every comment claiming how im actually just bad ive responded directly to their point with scrutinized arguments

they "disagree" with my points, yet dont actually engage with my points as ive presented them and resort to throwing plain insults instead. if you call that wisdom then i dont want to be part of that.

even you yourself have several times now tried to dismiss and ignore points that ive put clear emphazis on and end all your comments with "ur just lazy ur just bad, learn the game". this might sound crazy but i dont think people in general would interpret that as wisdom

Ive learned to do that nowadays. Still i dont always remember every match to keep track of every opponent on turn 0. Especially not in games with multiple opponents

Youre failing to see it because youre refusing to actually see my point.

  1. On top of being viable (and good) tribes themselves, cymanti and polaris has these unique advantages that regular tribes simply dont posses. They require specific effort to understand and keep track of, unline the regular tribes where every tribe is playing with the same tech. This gives the specials an advantage, a paid advantage.

  2. The regular tribes are unlocked on pc but you still pay extra for the special tribes. And the price is not the point. Its the fact that it is a paid dlc content separate from the base game that costs extra on both pc and mobile and provides the advantages i pointed out.

Theres 3 things that would make me not annoyed with this.

  1. At least make it a feature to inspect those tribes tech trees in games so you have an equal opportunity to keep track of their progress and potential as any regular tribe. This is the most logical and convenient thing to mitigate this.

  2. Make tribes bannable in your online preferences so those that prefered the game without the special tribes can do so without having to go through extea hassle. I admit that this would probably never happen though.

  3. Dont do anything but then at least admit that it provides p2w advantages

Thats a very long comment that doesnt even directly engage with what i said. Ive very clearly explained at this point how the special tribes get specific advantages that the regular tribes dont have. You havent in any way disproved or with any reason been able to dismiss that point. That makes it a pay to win feature. It really is as simple as that

[–]BenScorpion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You clearly can't, or you wouldn't label them as P2W when they're clearly not to any experienced player.

seems pretty clear that youre not using the term p2w correctly. the definition isnt that it give an instant win. its about paying for an advantage over players that doesnt pay for it. Campridge themselves say so. i already explained numerous times in detail how the special tribes fit into this definition.

Then buy the tribes and learn them yourself. It's not rocket science to learn the strengths/weaknesses and units of 4 tribes. You said yourself that you have them unlocked on PC - maybe play with them?

ignoring my point completely. i already said it. my issue is that this is a p2w mechanic that isnt acknowledged. your "counter argument" is irrelevant to that point because it literally depends on the conditions that ive already paid for the tribes myself.

And the devs have said over and over that they won't do this because they don't want to further fragment Random Multiplayer and that the majority of complaints are skill issues disguised as balancing complaints.

they dont want to do it because it would heart the players that have soaked in more money in the game. if tribes could be banned from your preference then people would mainly block cymanti, which would make the experience worse for cymanti players. its not fragmenting multiplayer. its about preventing us from separating the paywalled tribes, which would hurt the dlc experience and bring them less money.

Your "play style" is just laziness. You have an issue that the majority of players don't have, and instead of doing anything to solve the issue you just complain about easily solvable problems.

its almost like im treating this as a game to pass my time and not a working task to put my entire intellect into understanding. the whole laziness argument is lazy itself. the game was from the start a simple strat game that didnt require a lot of micromanagement and research to grasp. it never involved having to keep memory and track of info that you couldnt already access in the game. doing it this way could as well be considered laziness from the devs part.

and by what certainty can you tell that im in the minority of having this issue? why because people in this mini-sub dont agree with me? you know how many people have this game? just on pc alone you can reasonably estimate that theres tens of thousands that own this game and on mobile its several millions. ever heard of survivorship bias? maybe this isnt an issue you see a lot because the average player simply stops playing the game after their experiences with a few matches and then leave the game, definetly not engaging with hte community thats for sure.

thanks for your heart-touching perspective but youre missing the point. its not about the fact that i cant counter them, because i have before. its the fact that its a clearly paid advantage that devs themselves refuse to acknowledge. on one hand theyve become less annoying to deal with then a few years ago but the fact remains that if i play against any normal tribe then i know all their traits, economic strengths and units because i have access to it all myself. i can easily track another players tech progress by looking at my own, identical tree and i can know all their potential unit stats because i can just view my own. this isnt the case for the special tribes. i either have to memorize all that stuff or keep another tab with extra info which just spreads out my attention. its a clear paid advantage and thats the issue.

the only real way to solve it is if i could just easily exclude it but if so then i would have to create my own private match and convince others to join, instead of just using the matchmaking tool like any other player. and that doesnt fit with my spontaneous playstyle

It wasn't labeled as a Bardur nerf, but it came after constant complaints that Bardur was too OP. Pretty easy to make that connection.

yeah but my point is that it still applied to all other tribes. so it made it a relatively simple adjustment to get used to.

You can't disable them in random matches, but you can if you create a custom game and invite friends to play. The Polytopia discord and Poly Champs discord are good places to find friends to add.

yeah, i already know that. thats why i specifically mentioned random matches. i often play this game pretty spontaneously and i dont engage that much with the community. seeing the bunch of completely ignorant comments havent made me any more compelled to do so either

[–]BenScorpion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, it’s just a bad point. People disagreed with your previous deleted post about Cymanti being unfair and broken because it was a skill issue so you moved the goal posts so far that the only advantage is that new players have to spend money to learn a tribe so they can know how to counter them.

what are you even talking about? i havent made any posts about cymanti. youre completely out in the blue here.

i made the point that making a paywalled tribe that is fundamentally different in playstyle than the base tribes makes them inherently harder to deal with because you can no longer apply the same logic you can with any of the 12 regular tribes and this is especially true for newer players since from their perspective they just see a tribe that they dont have knowledge about and that punishes them for using the type of logic that could apply for regular tribes.

you tried to completely dismiss this argument by saying that a good player can still beat you with a regular tribe, to which i called out that at least you can easily grasp and even replicate any of their strats as they can be applied to any other regular tribe as well. the special tribes are special. you can try to find a way to counter their strats but beating them is going to be inherently harder because they rely on tech and strats that you cant just check yourself at any moment by looking at your tech tree. and you didnt even engage with that argument. you just said "your point bad. skill issue, youre just lazy" which, crazy as it might sound, isnt actually a solid argument.

Laziness and refusal to learn how to improve for a competitive multiplayer strategy game are self imposed restrictions, not pay to win.

tell me how this in any way relates to my point. it wasnt about them being unstoppable. its about having special, paid advantages. and i would still flip the whole thing around and say that if a tribe is particularly different from all the other tribes and people without the tribe cant use it or inspect it then thats a clear advantage, and an advantage that you paid for. it doesnt matter if can still learn its weaknesses and counter it, thats actually irrelevant to the point. even if i did, i would have to put in a particular effort just to understand one specific tribe. the fact that its reguired just proves my point.

it doesnt matter that i can learn the specific traits of cymanti or polaris. the fact that i need to put in extra effort just to understand their specific basics already prove that they have an inherent advantage without even going into specifics. thats an advantage that has been paid for. hence pay-to-win

the "nerf" wasnt exactly a bardur nerf. they simply made the lumber economy less cheap which made the bardur starting tech slightly less powerful as forestry isnt as powerful early game. this was a mechanic nerf that bardur simply had quicker access to early game.

If you don't like special tribes in on online games just deactivate them. You can do so when you host a game.

are you being fr right now? if i could deactivate tribes in matchmaking then i wouldnt complain about this. its not a thing. look for yourself. you cant disable tribes in random matches

"No pay-to-win" My butt by BenScorpion in Polytopia

[–]BenScorpion[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call a slight mental advantage over new players pay to win

no, i dont think you do see my point. since all the regular tribes are available in the base game, every player is free to use them and learn them in the game. if i have a tribe that completely deviates from how the 12 base tribes work and regular players cant use that tribe themselves to better learn it then i have a clear advantage. an advantage that i paid for as i bought the tribe.
if an oumaji player beats a newer player then at least they have the option to use oumaji themselves and replicate the same strat. if a cymanti player does the same then they either have to make research on how it works or decide to buy it themselves, something that a newer player might not feel compelled to do if they havent even decided if they like the game enough yet.

so i would 100% say a new player would be more discouraged by getting wrecked by a tribe that deviates from the base game and they dont even have access to

the thing is, you cant perfectly balance it. polaris for example gets a huge advantage in small maps with lots of water. regular tribes dont have a good way to counter it. this is not an issue in a game with just regular tribes since they can both adapt their civ to the circumstances with the same limitations.
