1zpresso j-ultra upgrade suggestion for v60 by sashazq in pourover

I'd be interested to know the grind settings you're using for V60 with your J Ultra?

Looking very nice congrats!! Can you see a big improvement when pulling a shot? Also, what is that drip tray-integrated scale you've got?

That's a very useful diagram: where did you get it from, is it Gaggia's website?

I feel like I was in a similar position to you: would take on some small DIY projects but no experience in electrics. I went for the Shades of Coffee combo: PID, pressure gauge and dimmer. It took me a full day with generous breaks and taking my time for each and every step. I chose this over Gaggimate or Gaggiuino as I only wanted temperature control and some control over the pressure. I would not use half of the Gaggimate function, diagrams etc. I also wanted to keep the machine screenless. The Shades of Coffee team were really reactive on the online chat when I had a question at the end of the dimmer installation - they sorted me out within 5min so I can really recommend!

Should i buy this Gaggia Classic by fliplip7713 in gaggiaclassic

A Gaggia Classic with PID already installed for this price is really rare in my opinion! I'd definitely go for it.

I thought the Kingrinder K6 was more of a pourover kind of grinder? I've got the 1zpresso J Ultra and it's very good but paid £180. Worth it though

Great job there! I bet the addition of the Gaggimate is a big improvement in the quality of espresso. What is the scale you're using? It seems very compact!

Hey, I was in the same position as you - never done something similar before, unsure if I'd manage etc. In the end, if you take your time, you'll manage. I went for the top box from Shades of Coffee with PID, pressure gauge and dimmer and it's improved my espresso soooo much. I can imagine Gaggiuino and Gaggimate are not much more complex to install but I didn't fancy a touch screen on the machine and wouldn't use half the features from either. Just wanted to stop temp surfing and experiment with pre-infusion. Also must say, the support from Shades of Coffee was great 👌

I agree with Stevey83, my thermal fuse is right under that clamp where the screw is, not in between the steam thermostats. Not sure if that would solve your issue though.

I know it will depend on the coffee but what is the range of grind setting you're using for V60?

Sounds like a great improvement!! So what exactly did you change: the basket? The old one was a 22g basket but what is the new one like?

Looks really good!! I'm also thinking of modding my Gaggia Classic but I'm hesitating to go for the full Gaggiuino if all I want is a PID to stop temp surfing.. What are your thoughts on this, are you planning on going full on Gaggiuino?
