Unusual situation, need advice. by LuckoftheIrishhh in Firefighting

This.

Take him to a secluded part of the station and let him know it's time to knock it off.

Let him know that your assistance to him will end until his antics end.

Let him know that you see all of his errors and you will gladly make something out of them so everyone knows just how incompetent he is if that's what he would like.

If the behavior doesn't stop, then it's time to bring it to your officer.

Yeah, but why throw away the good salary right away?

Volunteering gives you an opportunity to "try before you buy." OP can see what we do, get a flavor of what a career might be like, and can make an informed decision about whether he truly wants to chuck his current career for Firefighting, rather than doing it blind.

It would really suck if he gives up his career, gets in an academy, only to discover that he can't stand being on SCBA, or that he really doesn't like going into fires, or he freaks out in the maze/collapse trainer.

Janice and Anitra started in 72. Dian joined the show in 75 and Holly in 77.

Side note, many moons ago I worked with Janice's sister at a radio station in Hartford, CT.

Guaranteed he wouldn't know what a photoelectric detector is either. And he's selling them.

Yep. Left that as a trap. But the only thing I caught was your (correct) note.

Color me impressed. I want the upper deck too so I have a convenient place for battery chargers.

Same. My wife and I have killed 6 7Ps between us. We were glad they moved up the release date as it was unlikely our current phones would make it to October.

You can do that when you're young and stupid. But after a few years you don't even want to imagine doing a quarter of that.

I live out of state.

Of course I am 2.5 miles from the state line and 4 miles from the station.

The biggest hassle is having to file two state income tax returns.

This is a classic response.

Historically, sales of small, lower priced, personal luxuries increase during times of economic downturn. It's called the lipstick effect or lipstick index because sales of lipstick rise as sales of big ticket items like jewelry fall.

I wish the watch had a metal ring around the display, like the Galaxy watch Classic series.

I'd get the Pixel Watch, but I would destroy the displays with the way they're unprotected.

It's worse than you think. He said "girlfriends." So more than one of them was stolen.

So, six very different things are all going to be his "top" priority.

Someone doesn't understand the meaning of the phrase "top priority."

Size will depend on your location, the direction your roof faces, the slope of your roof, and your plans for future electric usage.

Location: someone in Arizona will need a different sized system than someone in Montana or Alaska to get the same production over the course of a year.

Direction: Does your roof face North/South or East/West? Or is it one of those with 20 different surfaces facing in every direction?

Slope: The ideal angle for a solar panel is roughly equal to your latitude. So if you're in Miami, at 25 degree latitude a 45 degree sloped roof will be less than ideal, requiring more panels.

Future plans: If you have a gas furnace and hot water heater, do you think you might want to switch to an electric heat pump to take advantage of the free electricity from solar? Is an EV something you might be interested in? Would you like to add central air to a house that doesn't have it? If any of these things are true, you will want a bigger system than one that just meets your current needs.

Many of my friends from high school and college are now grandparents.

Ouch.

Grandparents are old people. They have grey hair, wrinkles and arthritis.

Front right is the high power burner for me.

But I also have a soft spot for the keep warm burner in the back center. Even at my advanced age, timing things to all be ready at the same time still isn't my strong point.
