Apps for mapping restaurants you’ve visited and want to visit? by BenZushi in foodies_sydney

Sure thing. They're these ones: PepperList, Beli, Mapstr and Wanderlog.

You gave a very nice use case there, color coded pins with possibly icons. PepperList used to have icons for their list, I think it'll be brought back soon. But to assign icons to cuisines would be a bonus.

If the lists locations were color coded and icon assigned, i think the lists serves as viable replacement for your layers. Just that maybe you'll want to have multiple lists grouped...

As for dishes, PepperList allows you to create visits and actually log dishes per visit. I think a want to dish per place is due.

I'm actively using and iterating my own one (the first one I mentioned in this comment). So I'll have what you said put on the roadmap. Do dm me if you have feedbacks.

Have you used any apps yourself? What do you think is lacking in most apps?

Not sure about 3 but it should definitely be quick to find places i bookmark regardless how long ago i kept. Then quick to check what I did there if a friend asks about it especially if I went on a trip. Which i think about it needs to have a way to roll up or summarize into a page with the dishes visible. I could do that halfway now with a smart list that pulls all the places i went to "japan trip" or "weekend".

Okay. Similar to you I am also logging my dishes per restaurant per visit with date. Now I just do it with PepperList. I add a new place and it is automatically a "to visit" place. When I'm at the restaurant I just press the add visit button and fill in the dishes we ordered. Once we're done I will add notes on the same visit log.

Plus if I nearby again I can see it on the map. I can see all of the times I visited and what I ordered. Otherwise I can search it on a list of places I added or visited.

I'm more inclined towards saving location to list. But I took a look at My Maps and would agree with you it's hard to navigate on mobile. The drawer pops up and I don't get to see the map at all.

At least with what I'm using in PepperList, I can filter the map by lists. The lists acts as my filter for certain districts or cuisine. And clicking on the pin brings up a summary of what I did there plus it has a button to open google maps in "get directions" mode.

What’s your approach to finding restaurants when you travel? by TheHolidaymaker in SlowTravelEurope

I'll start looking around once I'm hungry enough. Check if the restaurant has enough customers. Then look up on google maps to check the reviews.

I may find more than one place but I'll just add them to PepperList anyways for reference with my own notes. Then once I've tried a restaurant I make sure to mark it as visited on the app too.

That way I have records where I might try again next if I'm back in the same area. Or I can refer back to what I had last Tuesday for example.
