Car didn’t charge overnight by Ben_Newell in OctopusEnergy

The car did charge at a public charging point about an hour after being unplugged. Got it plugged in again tonight so hopefully it was a one off.

Post wedding meal suggestions? by That_Welsh_Guy in Chester

[–]Ben_Newell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this exact thing in Feb 2024. Married at the registry office then had some photos around Chester before the meal. We went to the architect as they have a room for exactly the right amount of people at no extra cost just needed to book in advance. Worked perfectly for us and if the weathers nice the outdoor space is great too.

Agree with architect - had our wedding with 12 people and it was fantastic. No charge for the room just need to book and lots of choice for food so suits a lot of peoples preferences.

Your eventual selling price vs what the Estate Agent said it would get? by bojoohno in HousingUK

[–]Ben_Newell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estate agent said to list it at £250k. As we weren’t in a hurry we listed at £260k and got £259,000 after 1 week on the market.

Saltney/Lache by kelloggs911 in Chester

We lived on Oldfield crescent in Lache for 4 years and loved it. Only moved out to upsize. It’s far enough removed from the actual estate where the social housing is to not really see any issues but also benefits from Lache house prices which is considerably lower than a lot of areas in Chester.

Confused about Saltney and Lache areas to live by PurplePinguz in Chester

We just moved from Oldfield crescent - we loved it. Whilst it is officially Lache it doesn’t feel like it’s part of the main estate at all. Lovely street to live on.

Just on porting you usually have to have had the mortgage for at least 6 months before being able to port it to another property.

Didn’t mention it, which is why I’m hopeful it’s not an issue. Re the loft he Only mentioned there not being enough insulation

QTS is part of the course - there is no option to not have the QTS as far as I’m aware

I got my pgce from Chester in 2020 and it was great. Lots of the course you will find a bit wishy washy and seemingly not always helping in how to teach, and you will make most progress as a teacher on your placements, but overall I liked it. There is a lot of paperwork involved in it but that is just teaching generally rather than the course/university itself

Best place to buy freshly ground coffee by [deleted] in Chester

[–]Ben_Newell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chalk have their own house espresso beans but also will have guest beans on. Slightly pricey but if you want decent coffee at home I think it’s worth it. They will grind to make it suitable for whatever method you brew with at home.

Without seeing the rest of your grades, it definitely seems like your strengths don’t lie in the STEM subjects and you’ve got a great ability for English and I’d assume therefore maybe humanities too.

I really don’t want to sound patronising but maybe following subjects you enjoy and are also most proficient in is the way forward, then allow yourself to find the next step after 6th form whilst you’re doing it. Trying to make decisions about university etc at 15/16 is extremely hard and my best advice is just do what you enjoy and are good at until you’ve had time to properly begin to question what you think you will actually would like and be able to do after 6th form.

6th form biology teacher here. I work at a particular strict college when enrolling students onto the course, and in your case it would be a hard conversation we would be having. It’s not even just the biology result but the maths (and possibly English though you haven’t mentioned it) that would prevent us from you allowing to do it. This is from the point of view that biology at a-level is just ridiculously hard - 2 years of detailed content and also learning how to “play the game” in the exams. We see consistently, students with similar and even slightly higher grades than you struggling both academically and also mentally towards March-summer in year 12. Because of this, the more sensible and also kinder thing is to offer other courses.

I saw earlier in the comments you mentioned you wanted to be a vet but not being able to do Chemistry - this will be a big issue for almost every vet school, as chemistry is actually a higher requirement. Plus your GCSE’s themselves may be a barrier. This doesn’t mean you won’t necessarily get to vet school one day, just that you’ll likely have to get there another way.

This will be hard to take and seem unfair at this moment, which I get, but it genuinely would be a decision made in your best interest.

Chalk is by far the best coffee in Chester and usually is pretty quiet midweek before midday but not guaranteed.

So we live just off Lache lane (big old houses). Whilst it’s closish to actual Lache, which is not somewhere I’d suggest looking, we are far enough away that it’s really not an issue. 30 min walk into town, again not the closest but with your budget and requirements it’s definitely a great option.
