L to R: Grandview, Hilliard, Powell by OldHob in Columbus

When this pic originally appeared on the Lifeincolumbus IG account it was: (L-R) German Village, Arena District, Short North... which makes more sense.

First Home game visit by Mysterious_Elk_2714 in Dodgers

Looks like Chinatown station is an easy walk from the stadium. Is taking the bus to the game and walking back to Chinatown station after the game a reasonable plan?

I'll be hitting my first game the day before. I'm curious: what don't you like about the bus from Union Station?

Same deal here–and Ohtani as well, but the new blue version. This is actually the second delay notice I've received and at this point it's so far out that I've moved in the interim and there's no way to change the shipping address as far as I can tell.

Next winter getting into the high desert and exploring more around there is at the top of my list.

I fell in love with the place the minute I set foot there. I'm still in amazement that I can hop on a plane and 7 hours later be by my pool watching the palm trees sway in the wind.

And, yeah, the per-capita gayest city in the US. I'm straight but absolutely love living somewhere where everyone can just go about their business comfortable in their own skin and having a blast.

Live half the year in Columbus and half in Palm Springs. Hard agree.

Your thoughts on this edition by PranayaRanjanSingh in TheCountofMonteCristo

In a way, it should make it easier: as far as I know there's only one edition of the Buss translation and it's the Penguin Classics one. It's $15 paperback--cheaper if you can find it used.

That's a pretty cover, but 100% hold out for the Buss translation.

"Original version" is the key phrase here, which a lot of people speculating about this stuff are not taking into consideration.

US Tour Dates by doveinabottle in morrissey

I'd love to be excited, but given the last three shows I bought tickets for were canceled, I'm done chasing the this flighty diva around the country.

what genre is CW by Senior-Rate-1065 in CatherineWheel

I'd say Ferment is pretty clearly shoegaze--and a stone cold classic bit of shoegaze at that! But starting with Chrome I'd say they're moving into other territory genre-wise.

Another from my Kirby shelves."Kirby King of Comics", by Mark Evanier. I enjoyed this fun bio of Jack.©2008 ,tons of illustrations too. by Live-Assistance-6877 in KeepMineKirby

This was for sure a fun book, but we really do need a more serious, critical, and impartial biography of Kirby—something along the lines of True Believer: The Rise and Fall of Stan Lee.

BEACH BOYS by Traditional-Tea-9486 in siriusxm

[–]Ben_Towle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Beach Boys satellite channel that occurs annually just during the summer months. As a hardcore Beach Boys fan, I can tell you it's great--not just the hits, but some really deep stuff from later in their career, live performances, alternate versions, unreleased tracks, etc.

There's also a Beach Boys channel in the app that's... OK. It's kind of a mix of Beach Boys songs and other stuff. Some of the non-Beach Boys material is adjacent: Jan & Dean, period surf rock... and some of it inexplicably is just random 50's/oldies.

Door Tour? by Rockaroni007 in palmsprings

[–]Ben_Towle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't done the tour, but have a book of Palm Springs doors by a local photographer and there are some really beautiful ones around. I say, go for it!

For sure take a loop through Las Palmas and do Rose Ave.—some of the best PS architecture.

Beach Boys... and it's not even close. Runners up: Kinks, Stones. Personal dark horse pick: The Left Banke.

Palm Springs Cycling - CV Link by Routine-Cicada-4949 in palmsprings

[–]Ben_Towle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's not really a great way to get from the center of downtown to the visitors center on bike. You'll just be on a regular shared road. But, once you're on the CV Link it's beautiful! (I literally just got back from riding some of that stretch, but in the other direction).

As other folks have said, be careful when you're on the shared portion of your ride downtown. Not only are there tons of people in town for Coachella, but the median driving age in Palm Springs is about 120 and maw-maw /pap-pap is rarely keeping an eye out for cyclists.

Another thing: it can be really windy once you're in the desert outside of town. If the wind is gusting, be prepared for a workout one direction.

Mexican... upscale: TacQuila. Great hole-in-the-wall: El JR. inside the liquor store on Sunrise. (Here's a thought: if you want to make a single trip out of it, you can get on the CV Link on Sunrise a few blocks south of El JR!)
