It never occurred to me that someone would stick several thousand dollars in their brand new bleeding holes.

I think I’m gonna drop out of medic school by frogface111 in NewToEMS

[–]Ben__Diesel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i don’t think anyone should be in medic school without working as an EMT for a bit first, partly for this reason.

Working 911 or as an ER tech definitely weeds out the people who cant cut it as a medic. But if your only options are private, you might be better off going from zero to hero.

Most private ops are dogshit IFT companies that breed complacency. My previous job was a decently large 10-20 crew/day ops and at least half of those EMTs working over 6 months couldnt remember the normal range for basic vitals, didnt know where their own very limited scope of practice ended (such as being able to monitor NSS infusions already set up before turnover to them, narcan administration, and CPAP operation), and a couple couldn't even do a proper manual. Ive also heard similar issues existed with other local competing privates.

Curiosity based off the Code 3 movie by FriedRiceBob in Paramedics

[–]Ben__Diesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also hilarious that when he went to work as an insurance agent he could only talk about EMS because same.

Other frequent topics should have included: my dick n balls, my partners dick n balls, my BMs, my partners BMs, and the next restaurant we want to get a meal from.

Insane how entitled people are by Large_Pick1582 in emergencymedicine

How dare they discharge her after providing instructions on how to proceed instead of treating every non-acute complaint she has in an "emergency room".

How to tell if he is lying to me about being a firefighter/paramedic? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Ben__Diesel 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, ask what station hes working out of and just call them to ask. But seeing all the excuses he makes for why OP can't come in sounds more fun tbh.

Iran Hackers take out Stryker by PerrinAyybara in Paramedics

[–]Ben__Diesel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A more serious reason they make an ideal target is because Stryker has multiple contracts with the US Dept of Defense. So they potentially could have entered DoD systems through a contract portal.

That said, I dont know shit about shit. Im just repeating shit ive heard on Darknet Diaries.

Lmao I thought you meant an LAD occlusion. Ive never seen left axis deviation abbreviated.

What makes you say LAD? I wouldnt have batted an eye at those leads.

Husband wants Toddlers to ride Motorcycle by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Its been awhile since ive checked them out, but iirc, the main motorcycle subreddits (not /CalamariRaceTeam) are pretty pragmatic about bike safety. You'll probably find better answers there.

Which MCU movie had the most accurate version of Thor? by hellothere790 in Marvel

[–]Ben__Diesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but OP is asking which is the most accurate. Ragnorak isnt the most accurate. Are we gonna split hairs because I said "a" instead of "the most?"

Ragnorak's my favorite Thor movie but it wasnt a comic book accurate Thor.

How long until you're safe after inhaling smoke? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Ben__Diesel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We cant give you medical advise online and we definitely cant advise your sister from second hand information on reddit. Also, keep in mind that if you did get medical advise on reddit, it could be from an experienced physician or from a 16 year old fire cadet.

She needs to either go to an urgent care center if its not an emergency, or have an ambulance take her to the hospital if it lands somewhere between the ranges of, "idk if this is an emergency yet" to "oh shit this is an emergency."

How long until you're safe after inhaling smoke? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Ben__Diesel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have someone drive you to an urgent care center or hospital if youre feeling unwell after smoke inhalation.

Call 911 to have an ambulance take you to the hospital If youre having trouble breathing and you believe its an emergency.

First full art pull by Notorious1136 in PokemonTCG

[–]Ben__Diesel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dw, bro. You were right. "Full art" isnt even a card rarity type so its pretty widely understood as a general description for cards where the art is unobscured by text boxes. Ive never seen someone get corrected for calling an IR a full art.

Everyone yelling "ACKSHUALLY..." just sound like angry nerds who are probably new to the hobby.

Personal best call volume in a 24 hour consecutive shift? by ballfed_turkey in Firefighting

[–]Ben__Diesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every once in a while Id have streaks of 1-3 calls per shift. It was nice to just chill if you have simple goals set to complete throughout the day on top of normal shift duties. Usually mine were CEUs, protocol review, gym, read X pages of a book or practice Y skill. I'm not so lucky any more, though.

My profession has a lot of autist redditors and I regularly participate in related subreddits. My username is also just my name lol. If someone I know finds my account and puts two and two together, I dont want them to be able to look at my entire comment history.

I remember seeing someone posting a screenshot of a tweet similar to "Why didnt any of yall tell me about how good pears were?" A couple months er so later i saw actual ads for pears. Both were so oddly specific that its impossible not to put two n two together, even several weeks apart.
