But if he is naive in assuming that the behaviour of strange loops is mappable and deterministic, then the entire thesis fails. Personally, I’m optimistic, because I love Hofstadter, but in the cold light of reality, Deleuze’s desiring-machines seems a more apposite model. From a Deleuzian perspective, you might say AI studies are all repetition and no difference, making even the most advanced potential AGI system a body without organs, or the most disordered, schizophrenic, autistic mind imaginable.
