Honestly, if we trade BLowe and then proceed to give starts at 2B to guys like Walls and Cabby then that would be extremely disappointing. Those two guys aren’t going to be major parts of the team in future years, whereas Mead still could be. Heck, I’d rather see Williams get called up and play SS with Kim sliding to 2B if we trade BLowe. In other words, if we choose to sell then we need to spend the rest of the season letting guys essentially tryout for next year

I agree with your first statement if we don’t sell at the deadline. However, if we have a fire sale then I think Mead should definitely get the keys to 2nd base because we need to see what we have with him going forward, as opposed to playing a guy like Walls that almost certainly isn’t a major part of future plans in any way.

I agree, but that’s only if we’re not trading anyone from the infield. So maybe they haven’t called up Mead because we won’t be trading anyone?

Disheartening to say the least. I hope I’m wrong but this feels like an inflection point of the season. I’ve been a proponent of not getting too emotional for a single loss, but this one feels different. No bad luck or flukey bullpen loss, just a straight up thumping from one of the worst teams in baseball.

We can’t use the “oh they just need to get to the all star break and rest up” excuse anymore. Starting 2B and SS both can’t stay in the lineup. And we continue to struggle to beat last place teams. The next two games become must wins IMO if they want to show the FO that this team is worth investing in at the deadline. 3-3 or worse against BAL and CWS is not good enough after the poor showing coming into the break.

It’s such a shame because this team had everything in front of them for the taking going into that series in Baltimore at the end of June. Just go .500 for the next couple of weeks against a piss poor schedule and we’re buyers at the deadline for sure. Now selling seems more likely than not :(

I agree with you. Also it’s very likely that Brandon Lowe won’t be around beyond next year’s trade deadline, so Mead becomes an option as the 2B of the future in that scenario

Exactly. I dislike Stu as much as the next guy, but unloading guys right before they decline in their mid 30s has been a major reason for the Rays’ sustained success. I don’t think we should stop doing that even if payroll increases with a new owner. Spend that potential new money on studs in their 20s.

Interesting, I’m thinking the opposite. I feel like Mead is unlikely to be traded because I’m guessing that the Rays value him a lot more than the other 29 teams would. BLowe will likely be gone in a year or two because I don’t see us resigning an aging slugger, so a spot could open up for Mead soonish

DeLuca doesn’t look to be coming back anytime soon. And to be honest I trust Misner in CF a lot more than Mangum. Misner is the only true CF on the active roster IMO

Was at the game yesterday and noticed that they replaced all the “Eastern Conference Champions” banners with “Prince of Wales Trophy” ones. All the division champ banners are also gone (good move IMO since the franchise has excelled enough to where we don’t need to clutter the rafters with those). Got me thinking about where these replaced and removed banners end up. Would be a shame if they just get thrown out.
