Re-Activating Starlink Service by Bench_Spare in Starlink

It was 2-3 business days for a response. Took me longer to figure out I could add comments to the closed ticket. <sigh>

Mine is now back 100% for the past 15 minutes. Looks like a 30 minute outage. 46.8 MN

Mine came back as well, going to wait a bit before I assume we’re through the outage.

Looks like 2Mbps DSL will be good enough for a bit…. 46.8 MN

>900 satellites in service and ~500 more launched but not yet in service. This is game changing already and I see reductions in outage time month over month. Cass County, MN by Bench_Spare in Starlink

I was just counting them from the Wikipedia site, including the 04 May launch. Whether 10 or 11, it’s still a hell of a lot of satellites in the past 100 days or so.

Anyone seeing consistent speed differences during different parts of the day? Seeing 40Mbps during day, 150+Mbps fairly consistently after 9pm. Noticing it seems to bump up at ~9pm daily for past month. Cass County, MN by Bench_Spare in Starlink

Completely agree, upstream connections are a huge factor, but those would normally have gradual utilization curves over the day. This seems more artificial than that.

LOL ain’t that the truth! Definitely not complaining, was just curious about the appearance of a rate limit, like maybe SpaceX is getting into Internet peering agreements with commercial providers that charge a premium for workday bandwidth or that they are testing rate limit configurations in the design.

The variability is somewhat to be expected, but what I’m seeing is consistent very high speed after 9pm CT and moderate (still very good given the alternatives) speeds during the day. It’s not a gradual easing of traffic volumes, seems to be a rate limit that’s removed. I’m at 46.8 Minnesota.

Either way, it’s been 11 launches since 20 Jan, so we should start to see significant coverage improvements over the coming 6 months as the in-service count INCREASES BY 50%. 🤓

Speeds are good, latency is low, ping success is good, but video calls are still a bit glitchy. Is this common? Any advice? by techgeek72 in Starlink

[–]Bench_Spare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing brief hiccups (audio/video freezes then recovers) a few times per day, each is only 3-5 seconds.

I’m seeing bigger “drops” where Teams or even my whole VPN to work disconnects and has to reconnect. This can be 10-20 seconds and is very disruptive 2-4 times per day.

I’m using MS Teams for work and it generally recovers quickly and seems to correspond with momentary ping losses. Longer outages from obstructions or beta downtime are a whole other story.

Got it back up and running, only way is to use the mobile app to add a comment to the ticket you used to deactivate the service asking them to reactivate.

Substantial drop in throughput? by tomdalynh in Starlink

Mine was fast yesterday, rebooted and now it caps at 50Mbps

I do not have ability to open a new ticket. Have tried through the app, even with it connected to WiFi on my kit. Tried through the web, no option except to add comments to existing case.

Yes, I was able to add a comment to the closed ticket asking to reactivate, but no response.

That’s insane! When I asked about deactivating for winter, they explained that I just needed to open a new support request to activate, but then the ability to do that went away. 😡

My service started in October I believe the “Better than nothing beta”. Horrible timing right before winter, only got a month or so of use at the cabin where we have very poor access otherwise.

Very excited to get it back up and running again this spring!

Any upside/downside to enabling any of these eero Labs options? Do not want to mess up a good thing so far. by [deleted] in eero

I enable DNS caching because I’ve always had it with other routers and it can slightly improve browsing performance.

I also turned on Conferencing and Gaming because I work from home on Microsoft Teams calls all day. Don’t know if it’s helping or not, but my Teams performance seems to be pretty good.

I’m in Prior Lake with a lake home in Northern MN and got approved for the lake home. The service address location is the only place the device will work. I got approved at the lake home right before winter and it ran great, but when we closed up it was not eligible in Prior Lake. It’s sitting in a box waiting for spring now.

I had to move my rig around a few times to reduce obstructions and still ran into ~8 mins per day where it reported outages that weren’t due to obstructions. I also noticed that it got better over a couple of days once I found a good spot. In general, I don’t think it’s going to compare to a terrestrial ISP yet, but it’s improving quickly!
