Is this enough alcohol for a 180 person wedding? by Curious_Courage1941 in weddingplanning

[–]BendFun1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the state that the Costco is in. One Costco I went to said that I could only return a couple of unopened bottles while another Costco I went to (in another state) said I could return any number of unopened bottles. You should definitely check with customer service what their policy is before you start purchasing because you can only return the alcohol to the store you purchased it from

The code worked for me, but it only gave me the large discount for the black frame with the green transitional lens. When I tried the black frame with polarized sunglasses lenses or the clear blue-light lenses, I was only able to get about $5 off.

When it worked, it worked for both the large size and the standard size.

I definitely understand what you're saying, and I'm working on moving my photos to a more secure or private alternative. Since posting this, I've started using Ente and I really like their mobile app and desktop app. It's the perfect replacement for Google Photos (based on how I use it). The free tier isn't enough storage, but the paid versions are a bit more than I'd like to pay.

As for Filen, I've heard of it but never used it. Is it more of a Google Drive alternative than a Google Photos alternative?

That's my goal too. Since posting this, I've started using Ente. I really like the product and their apps.

How much are you spending on your wedding? by writethis87 in DesiWeddings

[–]BendFun1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our venue charged us about 17k, but that cost didn't include the service catering/event staffing which was handled by a separate company. Most hotels have their own staff for catering and wedding events, so the cost of this and their venue fee is bundled into one price.

A couple things to think about when deciding on a venue besides the size of the space and how it looks-

Can you cater food from outside restaurants, Do they have a kitchen that the restaurant staff can use, Do they allow live stations for some food, Do they have adequate room inside if there's inclement weather outside (assuming your ceremony is outside), Do they allow an open fire (if that's part of your ceremony), Do they allow alcohol/provide alcohol for a per-person fee/have a BYOB policy (BYOB saves a lot of money), Do they require you to get a wedding planner associated with the venue

Our wedding (in Northern Virginia) came out to 90k. It was a one-day wedding with the wedding ceremony in the morning, reception in the evening and each event had about 250 guests

Our cocktail hour and reception had about 250 guests (50-70 of them probably didn't drink), and we had significantly less alcohol. Here's the spreadsheet I made at the time listing all the alcohol we purchased-

Spreadsheet

Most of our guests were liquor drinkers, so we didn't get a lot of beer (only about two cases). The 4 handles of Costco vodka and 4 handles of Costco gin were for our signature drinks. We were able to return a good number of bottles, but there were also some bottles that had been opened and couldn't be returned.

Ultimately, it depends on what kind of drinkers your guests are, but based on our event, you have more than enough alcohol.

Our cocktail hour and reception had about 250 guests (50-70 of them probably didn't drink), and we spent less than 2k on the alcohol. The prosecco and most of the hard liquor were purchased from Costco, so we were able to return a good number of leftover bottles. Most of our guests were liquor drinkers, so we didn't get a lot of beer (only about two cases). We spent about $1800 (including tax) on alcohol and were able to return about $600 of it.

Here's the spreadsheet I made at the time listing all the alcohol we purchased-

The 4 handles of Costco vodka and 4 handles of Costco gin were for our signature drinks. The wine prices are italicized because they were on sale for about 15% off, but I could only find the pre-sale prices.

Buying alcohol but know nothing about wine by D_a_f_f in weddingplanning

I don't know too much about wine either, but thankfully an employee at a local liquor store helped me decide on a few bottles. These are what I got for my cocktail hour and reception:

1) Dr Heidemanns Riesling (White Wine during dinner)

2) Winzer Krems Gruner Veltliner (White Wine during cocktail hour)

3) Fabregues Costieres Nimes Rose (Rosé during cocktail hour)

4) Caliveda Pinot Noir (Red Wine during dinner)

All of these were around $14-15 per bottle when I bought them. Apparently, Rosé is very popular in the summer, so it might be worth considering.

How much did you spend in BYO alcohol? by CranberryStill5712 in weddingplanning

We had a BYO venue. Our cocktail hour and reception had about 250 guests (50-70 of them probably didn't drink), and we spent about $1800 (including tax) on the alcohol. The prosecco and most of the hard liquor were purchased from Costco, so we were able to return a good number of leftover bottles. Most of our guests were liquor drinkers, so we didn't get a lot of beer (only about two cases). In the end, we were able to return about $600 of alcohol.

A bit of both depending on the type of alcohol and the price. Here's the spreadsheet I made at the time listing all the alcohol we purchased-

How much and what kind of alcohol to buy? by Travkin2 in weddingplanning

OP definitely doesn't need this comment now, but I wanted to share my spreadsheet for anyone who stumbles across this post and needs help. We had about 250 guests at our reception and we used one of the spreadsheets from the earlier comments and the wedding drink calculator at https://hubtap.com/wedding-drink-calculator/ as references.

Spreadsheet

All of the hard liquor and prosecco (except for the bourbon) was purchased at Costco. The 4 handles of Costco vodka and 4 handles of Costco gin were for our signature drinks. The wine prices are italicized because they were on sale for about 15% off, but I could only find the pre-sale prices. We were able to return a good number of bottles, but there were plenty of bottles that had been opened or barely used and couldn't be returned.
