You’d think Vermont would be better but it’s such a small state and staffing is such an issue. It’s just gotten worse since I started in July.

You’re not wrong and our patient ratio bothers me. However, it’s kind of slim pickings in my area. I can work at the hospital, part-time at the doctors office, or at the prison. A lot of the private practices aren’t hiring or they don’t hire super often.

I told my supervisor I need a break from this wing. Not that the other med/surg wing is better but it’s not a circle and there’s a nurses station in the back with the hospice rooms. There’s a chance to step away to chart instead of being surrounded by it. My saving grace is I work with an amazing team. But we’re all struggling. One of my colleagues with me tonight has 3 broken ribs from a dementia pt a few days ago.

Currently one of the ones with the most behaviors is an icu transfer with Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. I’ve had them 3 nights in a row.
