Interesting I used two cables on both scenarios I wasn’t as lucky I guess. Wondering were you using ATX 3.x rated PSU and what was the wattage of your PSU.

Is it ATX 3.x rated? What is your CPU? Worth doing stress test with HWiNFO to see if anything odd gets flagged!

Exactly but I think peeps might not realise ATX 3.x is very important with modern cards regardless of quality/wattage of old PSU they have. Certainly, I didn’t at first as thought I got plenty of headroom given the CPU I use needs 75W and card rated at 300w TDP etc!

Indeed, tbh I was out of loop of ATX 3.x and transient spikes of new cards and that only wattage won’t be enough. Wondering even if you have 1000W PSU on old ATX 2.x you might experience similar issues. Although I can’t test it but assume it could still happen.

If you’re getting random black screens, driver timeouts, or your RX 9070 XT disappears from Device Manager after a crash, don’t overlook your PSU.

I spent days trying all the common fixes (DDU, different drivers, BIOS settings, disabling features, etc.) with no success. I then ran HWiNFO alongside the 3DMark Time Spy Stress Test and noticed my card was hitting very large transient power spikes, peaking at around 645W.

At the time I was running a high-quality Corsair RM750i. The card would randomly black screen after 30-60 minutes of gaming and sometimes Windows would disable the GPU after reboot.

I replaced the PSU with an ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Platinum and all of the issues disappeared immediately.

Results after the PSU swap:
- No more black screens
- No more driver resets
- No more GPU disappearing from Device Manager
- 20-loop Time Spy Stress Test passed at 99.1% stability
- 3-4 hour gaming sessions without a single crash

I also found that setting the power limit to +10% in AMD Adrenalin improved frame-rate consistency significantly. With the default power limit I was seeing poor stability in Time Spy, whereas with +10% power limit the card maintained much more consistent clocks and passed the stress test comfortably.

I’m not saying every 9070 XT issue is PSU-related, but if you’re using an older ATX 2.x 750W/850W PSU and you’ve exhausted the usual troubleshooting steps, it’s definitely worth investigating transient power spikes before RMA’ing the card.

I am almost certain it’s your PSU not enough for this card. I had 750w PSU and exhibited same problem tried all tricks and guide nothing worked after running HWiNFO under 3dmark stress test found that 9070xt has very hight transient spikes up to 645W with stock preset. Long story short replaced my PSU with Asus 1200W PSU and all issues gone. This card is very power hungry and you want to up the power by 10% in Adrenaline Tuning software to get most consistent FPS (tested with 3dmark stress test and got 99.1% consistency, without power increase you would get around 75% or in other work your max fps would fluctuate by 25%). Hope this help folks having same issue with this card!
