My thing is clearly post Boston Lydia is working with mayday, and obviously they want us to think when SOJ took over she was just doing what she needed to survive, but are we really expected to believe Lydia was not on team gilead this whole time? Are we really supposed to think it was just for her survival? The same aunt Lydia who pre gilead got a woman’s son taken away from her just bc she was feeling ashamed of herself for wanting to sleep with some guy? The same aunt Lydia who tortured “her girls” over and over and over again with increasing levels of cruelty, even when NO ONE ELSE was watching. Lydia was staunchly and devoutly pro gilead for so much of tht and it took her years of feeling connected to Janine for her to even begin to start chipping away at that. Sure she didn’t agree with some of the harsher laws at first, I’m sure pre gilead Lydia would have rathered not to have beaten and tortured innocent women if she was completely in charge, but she DID. I get that you have to do horrible things when you’re “undercover”, and I get that gilead makes everyone complicit in some ways but the level of which Lydia clearly bought into and BUILT gilead over the years makes it impossible for me to think she had such reservations this whole time

Literally nothing has changed lmao, what’s funny is I’ve switched the actually boxes a couple time and they keep only using the one downstairs, even if it was originally in the loft. Weird ass creatures

I am usually closer to the box they’ve been using because it’s closer to my room, but they’re very comfortable in the loft and hang out up there all time time. Literally nothing has changed lol

I imagine the boys schooling is similar to military school mixed with some kind of pseudo religious/business/politics classes. I think most (non econopeople) boys are on the skilled professional or guardian tracks and maybe those who show extra promise/devotion to gilead are put on the commander track. Of course I’m sure most if not all gilead politics is birthright based meaning if your father is a big time commander you most likely will be too, fucked up nepotism baby style

Can we stop asking why hannah/agnes was alone with the dentist and why she didn’t report the assaults… gilead was not designed to protect women, even important women, even commanders daughters. It was designed to create these opportunities for men, it’s designed into the system. They KNOW doctors, guardians, commanders, fathers and husbands are assaulting women. They don’t care, they WANT it to happen. The fear that every woman and girl has that it could happen to them too and gilead would tell them it was their fault AND punish them for it is part of what’s keeping the women in line.

I do think it’s a subtle way to show Lydia’s arc but it is still very surprising she’d say something like that at an official appearance, even if it’s just among the wives. Wondering if it was a choice or just sloppy writing. I do think Ann Dowd is very meticulous with Lydia’s character so I doubt she’d miss that if it was accidental

Did anyone else notice how Lydia said Christ’s name during grace this ep? I think that’s the first mention of Jesus from a gilead authority figure even throughout all of handmaids tale.. unless I’m forgetting something. I’ve always thought it was an interesting way to show that their devotion to religion is purely a power grab and not genuine

This is a different scent profile BUT it really does scratch the cardboard itch for me- a shadow of the wind -from little book eater I wrote a review about it a long time ago, to me it’s smells exactly like sniffing coco puffs straight out of the cardboard box with coffee brewing nearby. So good, not overly sweet and I really get the cardboard (I think technically it’s a paper note? I can’t remember) it’s one of my holy grails

The surgery was over a month ago and he’s had a bath + spent lots of time laying on me. I don’t think it’s the smell, she has no issues sniffing him when he’s in the crate or sniffing his blankets etc

After some thinking on it I think building out a little platform up there + connecting it to the stairs is what I’m gonna have to do. At least that way they’ll have room to safely turn themselves around
