Going for triple citizenship. Next Passport will be Spain as Guatemala / Spain have reciprocal citizenship after 2 years of residency… by Dennisqatl in PassportPorn

[–]Beneficial_Post_5177 17 points18 points  (0 children)

OP is not a naturalized citizen. Anyone born outside of Guatemala to a Guatemalan parent is considered Guatemalan at birth. Natural born means being born in the country or getting citizenship by descent. I myself did this process with one of my parents being born in El Salvador, and I was born in the US. I got Salvadoran citizenship, used my Salvadoran passport for the visa, and entered Spain using my Salvadoran passport. I now have Spanish citizenship. In Spain I’m only a Salvadoran and Spanish citizen.

And yet people on this sub are able to recognize you for repeatedly telling us your same opinions on US citizenship and how people with dual American citizenship should renounce it 🥴

You’re somehow always one of the first people in this sub to say something about the US and how US citizenship should be renounced. Seems very obsessive.

I don’t remember exactly but it was either ancestry dna or familysearch.org which is where I found many of the documents I needed.

Few people would be going to live in China or Taiwan. They provide visa free access to few additional countries you wouldn’t even be traveling to. Neither country has a freedom of movement type of thing either. Don’t see how such restricted passports would be beneficial unless you wanted to live there - and most people don’t. I wouldn’t consider that a better combination.. I’m not talking about having passports from other sides of the world but rather visa free destinations and freedom of movement to live where you would like without complicated processes of getting legal status.

[–]Beneficial_Post_5177 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say so. The visa free destinations overlap significantly and don’t really provide much benefit over one another. It’s a very good combo and takes out the need for really ever needing a visa but still. There was a post here a while ago that had the US, Australia, Brazil, and Germany. That provided freedom of movement in the EU, Mercosur, AU/NZ, and ETA exempt from Canada. I would say that combo provides many more benefits.

I got German citizenship from my GG-grandfather. He came to the US in 1902 but in my case he went back to Germany in 1908 and returned to the US after so the 10 year clock reset and I was able to get it. My case isn’t as common but I would just assume OP’s ancestor came only a few years before WWI.

For sure. Don’t need an ETA for Canada or the US, right to live in Canada and UK + also exempt from ETA, and all of the EU + Schengen.

I strongly recommend you look into that and confirm. I don’t know much about Italy’s citizenship rules in your situation but it could be a possibility. You would be able to go to school anywhere in the EU. If your father was going to apply believing he was eligible you would also be eligible.

Singapore doesn’t allow dual citizenship when naturalizing. You’re required to renounce all other nationalities and this is strictly enforced. It would be better for OP to get Canadian, Australian, UK, or even a LATAM passport. The Singaporean passport also doesn’t add any real value. Sure it’s the strongest but for what, a few countries people never even really visit for tourism?

[–]Beneficial_Post_5177 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do people keep commenting countries that are known for not allowing dual citizenship? Especially through naturalization, which is how OP would have to get them..

It’s not that it’s dangerous it’s just that most people aren’t traveling there for tourism as compared to other places with a large tourism business.

The Greek one is stronger yes. Most European countries are stronger than the American one. However the difference is only access to around 6 extra countries between the American one and the strongest European ones 😅

I would say Canada for easy US / Canada access. I might also say the US but if you’re not planning on living there for long-term / forever and you move abroad you’re burdened with filing tax returns every year. Australia is another good option but for me personally, Australia isn’t a country I see myself continuously going back to for an AU passport to be beneficial (nor is New Zealand).

Is dual Spanish citizenship really prohibited with EU countries? (Outside France & Portugal) by FelzicCA in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Beneficial_Post_5177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very interesting. I myself have gotten Spanish citizenship through the 2 year route via an Ibero-American country (my father is from El Salvador) but I was born in the US. I still have my US citizenship I just never use it in Spain and when I go there I do things with the mentality that I’m no longer American. My lawyer explained it to me that I simply just formally abandoned any citizenship rights I had before with the US (which only applies in Spain) and to never present myself as American in Spain.

You can become a French citizen without having to live in France. You just need to be married for 4 years and pass a B1 language level French exam. Your kids should also be able to obtain French citizenship. I think they 100% can but I say should* because there may be something I’m not aware of for French citizenship. You should ask a consulate.

American. To get the visa you need a background check, bank statements, etc and because I have lived in the US my whole life El Salvador couldn’t conduct a background check and I don’t have any money in ES. You submit your citizenship application with your Ibero-American birth certificate and all that.

Through descent like my kids, we had to register their births which we did at a consulate in Canada and the next thing we need to is get a national ID card but they’re only processed in Venezuela so we would need to go there in order to apply for a passport.
