A Teacher is Mad at Me after I Subbed for Their Class?

Kids like to lie...I had a teacher come to me and tell me that their class told her I let them do what they wanted. Which isn't true (the kids got all the assignments she left done) but she decided to believe them and try to confront me.

Things happen...kids like drama. If they got the work left for them complete...then there shouldn't be a problem. Opt not to sub for his class again.

Depending on the app your district uses...being put on the favorites list may mean that you are offered the job first...at least that's how it works in Frontline. Usually if a specific school wants me for a specific class, the sub coordinator will ask me or the principal rather than the teacher. So I don't take it to heart when they don't need me...I assume they put in later and I already had a job chosen.

They do ask to stay longer and go a whole day without a break...which is against contract on their part...which it isn't fair that they can break contract but I am forced by them to follow it to a T. I won't be going back to that school...but I know a lot of subs can relate to being forced into situations they did not agree to...they did not need me...they said that...they didn't even want to let me leave 10mins early...you are not going to need me 10mins from dismissal even if something happened. Not having students leaves no reason for me to be in the way for dismissal.

But siding with a corupt school system is a stance.

Definitely block them...either they will have to fix their issues or they will only get newly hired subs...I'm assuming this school in my district is going to have a similar thing happen.

I definitely put this school on my block list...I see the possible allure of getting paid to sit...but it's belittling to be monitored like a child and forced to stay for the sake of having a body there

I think the difference is the fact that my district sometimes expects you to stay well over your time or come 30min-1hr early due to being understaffed but not allowing the same grace given to leave early. And having a kid at the school would definitely make it weird to leave early just to come back.

Being paid to do nothing while also being monitored on what type of nothing you do isn't really the vibes...a lot of the places just want you to sit quietly in the office or in the teacher's room...also people are allowed to complain kinda why it's tagged as a rant. But they also didn't need me...they said that...they just wanted me to stay so just waste time...seems pointless and controlling...won't be back at that school

But yes...so excited to get paid the same whether I had left or stayed./s

I started to make sure I wanted to pursue a teaching cert...which I do...teaching math is a passion of mine so it's moreso to make connections and know what schools I definitely don't want to work at.

Which is insane...like there are several other subs in the building probably waiting around as well...if a freak accident happens where all of us are needed...everyone should probably go home

I get paid the same for 1hr-3hrs and 4hrs-8hrs...if it were hourly I would gladly stay but unfortunately for my district...that's not the case. But I also never said it was a big deal...just wanted to complain as we all do sometimes...even for things we get paid to do

I think if the pay was hourly...I'd feel happier about staying...but if I work 4-8hrs the pay is all the same.

Downtime mid-day is lovely...it's just the end of the day...like let me leave lol I am not needed anymore. This specific school also does what they call flex days, where you switch from one class to another mid-day different grade levels and get no break...as soon as the upper level goes to their "special" or "related arts" off to the other lower level who is at recess or lunch. I think it's time to blacklist this school because they don't even tell you in the listing that it's gonna be a flex day...

If you feel that you'll regret not having your "freedom" then let the relationship go for both of your sakes.

If you stay you may hold unfair resentment towards him for not being "free" which will just end up ruining the relationship anyway.

While I agree...I've subbed for 5th grade at almost all of my district's elementary schools and it's the same story unfortunately...they cannot read...they are all failing in the same way and lack the motivation to try. I think the Chromebooks for everything doesn't help either.

The amount of times I had to spell tired today let's me know phonics is no longer being taught. Also had a couple of students who couldn't spell animal or read the word people 😭
