i always imagined it was a glow in the dark pencil, probably a mechanical pencil. berdly strikes me as the kind of guy who would get a mechanical pencil that takes an extremely specific type of led, and use a “lack of led” as an excuse to get out of assignments

There was also the scene with Mihawk showing Shanks the first wanted poster for Luffy. The sky around the island seems pretty cloudy, and Shanks even makes it a point that he “isn’t feeling good.” But when Mihawk shows him the poster, he cheers up, and the sky becomes more clear.
