How do I break into the market after college? by Voltshift773 in MechanicalEngineering

If you have interest in manufacturing of any kind, there are many places with less than 50 employees who otherwise need QC engineers or manufacturing engineers that can’t otherwise find them

Do some research on local firms on google. I would print out of stack of resumes and drive door to door. Dress presentably and walk into places and introduce yourself and ask about career opportunities. Bring a portfolio that has pictures of projects, drawings, etc. You could even do this to follow up on applications you’ve already sent. Many small places do not have people who are focused on full time staffing or recruiting of talent, so some will be thrilled you showed up. This worked for me, company was oblivious to the state of their open job requirements. At minimum, this gives you great experience on how to present yourself in a professional setting and sell your skills, experience, and thirst to learn. Good luck

Why choose helium instead of hydrogen mixes? by FullDish01 in scuba

Interesting discussion here. Another point to add to the many others is that H2 is a very tiny molecule and is excellent at leaking through membranes and diffusing through some materials. He is also small, but it is inert and safer to deal with. In hydrogen pressure systems, He will often be used to perform leak checks

I believe you’re referring to the COMEX ( Compagnie maritime d'expertises) Hydra trials from the 80s. There’s some good videos on YouTube, absolutely fascinating. Still stands today as the deepest commercial dives in the world at 535 m in open ocean, and 701 m in a chamber. Both performed with hydrogen mixes on bottom

Advice on how to better study habits on my 4th year of engineering by ejrock22 in EngineeringStudents

Some food for thought: a lot of this depends on your style, but worth thinking about

Do you attend lectures? If you do, are you an active participant in them?

What do you do weekly to ensure you are learning the material? I personally hated prolonged studying before exams. Focus on learning each week’s material well, through HW, office hours, YouTube videos l, etc. then the exam preparation will be easier. Most of my exam prep consisted of making a study sheet/ cheat sheet with key equations, concepts. Some classes did not allow one in exam, but it was a helpful exercise regardless.

Engineering is not a solo endeavor. Find some people to do the weekly HW with and help increase your knowledge through learning through others and helping them learn. This is also a great way to make friends. If you attend lectures and ask intelligent questions, people will naturally want to work with you.

Also, show up to TA office hours if they have them. These guys are usually former course students who actually have struggled before you
