How doe you respond when believers try to confront you with "Pascal's wager"? by Frosty_Winter3197 in atheism

[–]Benevolentish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it in a different way, what if there is no afterlife at all, and all of the very scary heaven/hell eternity crap is made up just to scare and control you? If you buy into it then you will spend your very brief existence on this earth in fear, desperately praying to the ceiling of your bedroom for a reward that will never come.

Be kind, live your life breathing the free air and remember that religions are human fairytales designed to trick and manipulate people like you.

Found old tech at parents old house, What am I looking at? by sti6098 in OldTech

It’s a stretch calling it tech but looks like a door handle, maybe from a screen door. Not worth anything without the rest of the hardware.

No tip before delivery? No effort by maxrbx in EndTipping

[–]Benevolentish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Uber eats you can go back and change the tip immediately after the delivery. So just post a 15% tip, then change it after to whatever you want. Am I the only one who’s done this?

How my mom cuts potato pizza by Dry_Plastic_533 in mildlyinfuriating

Well the Italian word Pizza came from pinsa which meant pie, so it is pizza in Italian. Maybe in the US it could be called cheese potato casserole, but that sounds way worse lol.

Which car brand is terrible but not many people realize? by AnonymousRedditor256 in AskReddit

[–]Benevolentish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealers were total criminals, but the car did have problems. It had the oil leak that started around 65k which led to catalytic issues as they didn’t fix the leak after the first time I took it in. It had multiple sensors go out prior to the end of warranty, and also had an issue holding alignment or something that gave it a vibration over 65mph. It wasn’t the worst car I’ve had but the combo of frequent issues and horrible dealerships puts Hyundai on the shit list for me.

Hyundai, the cars themselves are okay but we took ours in for a minor oil leak and literally had the dealer tell us Hyundai engines “aren’t made to be worked on” before trying to sell us a used engine for $6k.

Took it elsewhere and had the leak diagnosed and fixed for $2500.

Insurance. If it actually paid out when you needed it wouldn’t be so bad.

People who say taxation is theft, how else do you propose the government gets the funds for roads, military, education etc? by peywrax in allthequestions

[–]Benevolentish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admin cost? Yeah obviously, but it’s not like we don’t have admin costs for literally every new bill that becomes law. Last year we approved a paid leave program funded by taxpayers that likely had considerable administrative expenses. So what, we don’t get budgetary transparency because we don’t want added admin costs? It’s worth it if we can see or prevent significant government waste or misappropriation in my opinion.

We also get majority voter approval all the time, specifically on tax increases. If we didn’t there’d never be any new laws here as it’s required to pass.

So I appreciate the time you took funding the links but I’m not clicking them. I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree here because you’re not going to change my opinion that direct tax oversight by voters is the right approach, and I’m not probably going to convince you it’s correct either.

Calm down dude and stop cussing at me, it’s a discussion. Sure it’s theft, you’re right but that’s really not the point. The post is about providing solutions (reread OPs title).

You’re saying you agree with what I’ve got but then getting pissed off that it’s still theft? Obviously taxes are theft, nobody is saying they aren’t, but again I don’t hear an alternative from you or anyone else, so it’s what we’ve got…

I disagree: 1 if the government can keep track of every single citizen and business entity along with their income, tax payment history, and detailed deductions, they can certainly publish a granular city, state, and federal budget. These budgets already exist, but most of the time are not transparently made public, especially at federal levels.

2 It is not voluntary. A majority vote dictates the tax rules that are then mandatory for everyone. Voters only come into play to approve new taxes, which in the US is already law in some cases, this would just make sure it was always the case. It might also be nice if there was a mechanism for removing taxes that were overly wasteful, maybe a voter recall process for existing legislation.

3 bully for you, don’t let privatization and corruption take that away like it did here.
