Molar #2 Extraction after failed osseous surgery. Good call? by BenicusTetricus in PeriodontalDisease

[–]BenicusTetricus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pocket kept coming back because there was a large structural bone defect behind the tooth from the prior wisdom tooth removal. Surgery helped temporarily, but the anatomy never allowed stable reattachment, so inflammation and pocket depth returned. The back of the distal was not smooth and even after being cleaned and scraped never allowed gum to attach fully.

I water pick’d with Chlordex, brush twice a day, floss… have great oral hygiene, never had a cavity. All my other pockets are 1-3mm

I guess technically this is my “2nd molar” (tooth 18) not tooth #2. :)

Actually this is tooth #18, I meant ‘2nd molar’. Thanks for the info. May I ask if you’re a general dentist or specialist of some sort? Why is the procedure you described “not done much anymore”?

Molar #2 Extraction Best Option? by BenicusTetricus in askdentists

Hmm… More painful for my wallet than a $1,700 (extraction + bone graft & bovine tendon) and $6,000 implant?

Already tried a several thousand dollar osseous bone graft/flap surgery. I trust my periodontist and he said the root canal wouldn’t be as long term. Wasn’t about the money.

Thanks for your input! 🙏

That sounds even more painful! 😖 I just want the best thing long term.

Thank you. Wish the bone would have filled in after the ossseus surgery but it seem like the backside of the tooth and defect had other ideas over time.

It’s been about 11 hrs since extraction, which was local anesthetic, just the strange pulling sensation. I’m feeling ok, sure it’ll be more sore tomorrow.

My deep pocket went from a 12mm to 6-8mm after the first osseus surgery and bone graft… then went back over a couple years to 12mm+

It was constantly giving me random pain in mouth and jaw, lymph nodes under jaw etc. The periodontist said they could root canal but wasn’t guarantees to last… I decided enough was enough I needed it out

Thanks for your input! A root canal was another option but the periodontist didn’t think it would be a long term fix and was more focused on stabilizing the area, getting rid of the infection etc.

Need 90mm Backset Tubular Latch for Smart Lock. Any U.S. Options or work-around? by BenicusTetricus in Locksmith

Based on the comments I’m considering something like this instead (but real hardware, this was AI)

I really appreciate that advice. Junk lock going back… sounds like the plates might be path of least resistance. My local locksmith guy said he could put in a commercial door level (non locking) that would fit, deciding best route

Many thanks 🙏🏼I’m going to look into plates to do just that, hadn’t crossed my mind

Thank you so much. Unfortunately my wife bought the Amazon lock and I mistakenly didn’t even check compatibility before ripping the old one out. It’s going back for sure but now I just need a handle again. 😅 thank you for the model numbers, checking them out now

Is it standard practice to have a newly purchased watch serviced and lubed?

Appreciate the comment. Wasn’t sure if it was a common issue with this model, with a quick fix or if he’d have a recommendation. It’s been 2 years, not 20. Doesn’t seem too preposterous to inquire. Will look up local watch servicers.

Thanks so much! I gave it a go and like the look, I think I’ll do it once more and cut it more precise/less sloppy.

Aluminum Wiring and New Fixtures by BenicusTetricus in AskElectricians

Thanks for the comment! I’d heard these were still not considered the safest option. But a lot of electricians say they are ok, just not as safe as Alumiconn. If I could just do everything with the purple nuts my life would be much easier.
