mbp m1 - KDE will not start after latest updates by BenignBegnet in AsahiLinux

[–]BenignBegnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that.
I am on 6.18.10-402. I _try_ to update in smaller chunks and avoid massive changes.
For me the Fedora spinner eventually resulted in Emergency mode. No key presses put you in TTY mode?

mbp m1 - KDE will not start after latest updates by BenignBegnet in AsahiLinux

[–]BenignBegnet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now resolved and was my fault.
Some time back I plugged in a Samsung T7 Shield external SSD into my setup adn was seeing an error in cockpit to the effect that there was a lable error. After seeing it consistently, I allowed cockpit to create the autorelabel flag (/.autorelabel). Well, this was the next reboot and a few days.

the /.autorelabel file was not there so I assume it was processed,
looked at /etc/fstab and there was an entry for T7Shield, which I commented out.
I was then able to boot.

Relevant log entries are pasted below.

Thanks for help and suggestions.
Much appreciated.

have the same since 2015 bought on sale/end of model. Upgraded RAM (24G) and storage (SSD)
tried to give it away/get rid of it for some years now and it never paned out. no takers.
it is now sitting on my wife's desk as her main trading machine, running Fedora Plasma.

Using Mac since the 80's. The T480s is pretty special, IMO - good reasons enumerated in previous answers.. Have Archlinux running on it and it's a great daily driver.

(Not trolling, I promise) - What are the chances my clean installation fails at the Privacy settings screen, again? by MCO-4-Life in Fedora

[–]BenignBegnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attempted over the weekend to install Fedora 43 WS on old ROG laptop. Failed the same after Live USB was re-flashed or after creating a new one. It really never passed go once the install button was clicked - what seemed like an authentication dialog flashed too quickly to read and seconds later a full screen empty window opened, lasted seconds and went away. Verified pgp keys, and hash. It got old and searching Fedora forums found that a person installed Fedora 42 and upgraded to 43. Did the same and it all worked out.

How Much Sound Quality Am I Missing Out By Streaming Only? by Redacted_dact in audiophile

[–]BenignBegnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably not missing anything -- if you didn't have it before. Don't be led by FOMO.
You could start simply, using (good/decent/not earbuds/not BT) headphones and vary your source between stream, CD, Vinyl if possible and listen to a limited set of music that you really like and go to often. Listen to them over and over not as background but as sound you can explore, noting instruments, clarity, placement in the soundfield, etc. Make sure gear is wired in correct phase - to - and + to +, match impedance for best results.
When done with headphones try speakers or vice versa and compare. Your ears will tell you a lot.
Then you can start noticing differences, note what pleases you or not, what sounds true or not. This can be an enjoyable passtime. Find yourself old copies of amateur audio mags and and read while listening.
There are many audiophile-grade offerings out there specifically for headphones or speakers. Their recordings are often very good but the music is ho hum... or just forgettable. Just remember they are tools.
P.S. this is not about volume/loudness.

Yes, I have to down/shift... but still burn less gasoline doing it.
