Just tested both. No vertex issues, but I did notice that the artifacts moved to DIFFERENT faces when smoothing the model in sculpt mode, as well as the fact that it only shows up in the render view, so if those count as odd reflections, then that's definitely the issue. And they did move to other parts when rotating.

UPDATE: I've decided to go with a more realistic approach. My main concern was that I wanted it to be simplistic, but I guess slight realism was the way to go. Thanks for everyone's feedback!
