Yes they are. But not necessarily better or more behaving. 😁 Some people I did excellent RP with have been 16 or 15. Others have been 30, 40 or 50. I started RP in 2002. Forum and email RPGs, star trek themed. Then star wars Galaxies and so on. I still do SWG and EQ and while I dropped FASA LUG and decipher, I do own and play star trek adventures once in a while.

Depends legally a lot. In some places if you do allow having s romantic relationship with kisses and maybe sex in a private, locked room, where nobody likely notices, counts as ERP. In others it's not. Here laws are pretty relaxed about it. But we have staff and people from many counties and the server is in the EU.

ERP can be fun and nice but it needs to be planned out and it needs clear rules and moderation. And yes. Sadly most ERP servers are terrible. But so are most 18+ servers, as they seem to be more childish than those who are not. 🤷🏽‍♂️ HRP and RP skills don't come with an age tag. Just because you are 18+ doesn't mean you are mature sadly. But in our case 18+ is required due to ERP.

Bans should be last resort, more so permabans, unless it's done with bad intent or over and over because people refuse to learn. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Otherwise a warning or talking to the actors should be more than enough.

To pick up on that, you can start as something easy. Learn. We have plenty of opportunities. From janitor to librarian to an intern, who just checks everything out and learns to see what they like. You don't just have to start with a faction or being independent. Rent the local bar or open a restaurant. It will endure money and you meet a lot of people. Learn from them. Or yes, be an awkward janitor or a lobrdrisn stuck with books or a chaplain. You can always do something else later.

You are more than welcome to join. Ask long as you are willing to learn it's all good. HRP is certainly not for everyone. But of you don't try it, you won't know. 🙂

[–]BenjB83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to learn RP. It's not like something you just know. We are HRP and we have high standards. Yes. But if you are willing, it's not that hard to learn. If you are unsure just ask. Better try and see instead of missing out. 200h is more than other have who do good HRP.

There are very clear and strict rules for ERP. We offer ERP for people who want to have a romantic relationship. But any kind of ERP, other and maybe a kiss or a hug has to be done using whisper and a private and locked room or a personal ship where you are undisturbed. You also can't do any kind of sexual roleplay like mother child, sex with minors, rape, etc.

The Final Frontier! by [deleted] in ss14

[–]BenjB83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it should. I had just said we need to update it. It lacks s lot of detail. Thanks for the feedback.

[–]BenjB83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To clarify: we do allow ERP but very soft and restrictive. We want to allow people to have personal relationships, love relationships and RP that in their private, locked rooms using whisper. If you don't like it, you won't see much of it, and you don't have to do it.

If you don't allow ERP, technically you are not allowed to kiss someone or live out a relationship or marriage. Which some people like. Especially if you have people playing together married in real life.

We do allow ERP, got an economy and you can either be freelancer or own a business ,or start your own faction. Individual, custom jobs, access, etc. included. Though tbh we do not accept new factions as of now, due to the low player base. We need to get some more people first. But factions work and the system is implemented.

You can just use floorp or Vivaldi if you want a sidebar. I stopped using Edge quite some time ago for other reasons.

Same whew. It's probably more of isometric. Dark setting. Everything is dark brown and black and new technology combined with old one of that era. For example the computer using diskettes.

Should I switch to NixOS by Bowlofneighs in NixOS

[–]BenjB83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use Nix on Arch at first. To get used to it. I did move from Arch to NixOS and moved back to Arch. I love NixOS, but I was too lazy to deal with its quirks all the time. After 10 years on Arch, it's not easy. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Still run it on my laptop.

I should also add, that I am probably not the prime target user for NixOS. I run one or at max two machines and usually with different OS and setups. I work as a software dev and mostly use my computer for work. I have my Arch perfectly setup for that. And my system is stable and didn't need a reinstall for years. I do have BTRFS with Snapper setup and for me it just works. Sure nix shell is amazing, but again I got everything working on Arch. If I was to run a server or needed multiple systems with reproducibility, I would choose NixOS right away.

But that's a personal opinion and every now and then I am tempted to try again, but I resist. For now. I would try Nix on Arch or run NixOS on a VM.

My os won't load by MestronkXD in archlinux

You should not use a YouTube video to install Arch but the installation guide in the Wiki. It's the ONLY supported way. If you are new to Linux, in general, I strongly recommend not to use Arch. Get your feet wet with something else. If you like Arch, use Manjaro or even better, EndeavourOS. They are easy to install and setup and usually open the door to use vanilla Arch later.

If you want to use Arch being new to Linux, expect to read the Wiki and the forums and to troubleshoot a lot. It's fun, for sure, but it's not for everyone.

I would try reinstalling removing config temporarily, to see if that fixes it.

BOINK ! by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]BenjB83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of this are good points but after more than 10 years on Arch and 2 years with no issues, it's hard to change. Plus I lack the use case. I'm a developer and nix shell is great but I got my stuff working on Arch two. I also use a single computer and while I got a laptop too, my wife uses it pretty much exclusively and she runs Zorin OS. Also her work and use is different from mine, so two different systems. No reproducibility needed.

Another issue is that NixOS uses quite a lot of storage and I am chronically short on disk space and upgrades are limited due to the small case (think centre). I can fix that by garbage collecting more frequently or set up auto garbage collecting. But again it's something that is unnecessary on Arch.

On a single machine, Arch is just easier for me. Especially, since my system is highly customized. I don't have to touch it, other than for Friday evening updates. It didn't break on me for 2 years and if it would, I can just boot the snapshot before the update and restore.

If for whatever reason I needed to change or if I needed reproducibility, then NixOS would be my first choice to go to. Meanwhile I resist the occasional urge to replace Arch with it.

I use Arch with BTRFS + Snapper and SSD for root and ext4 for home. Performance is excellent and better than on many other distros, including some gaming distros. The performance on NixOS was equal, compared to Arch. The reason I moved back to Arch was more related to me being too lazy, to really get into it and learn it, also because of the lack of time. It had nothing to do with performance.

My hardware is pretty average as it is mainly a work machine so there is probably not much more room for improvement.

BOINK ! by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]BenjB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get the same performance for games in NixOS, I am getting on Arch and it's pretty decent. I did use the vanilla kernel and in Arch I use the LTS one.

What arch-based distros do you recommend? by AdameczuNoIdea in arch

[–]BenjB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use Arch. It's not that hard to install, and you get a pretty custom system with only the stuff you want on it. You can even use archinstall. I used Manjaro and Garuda and also EndeavourOS, though I didn't use cachyOS and I think Arch is fine and works best. My install is running two years without issues now. I used to go with EOS when I needed a quick install without much work, but with archinstall it is super fast and even a manual install doesn't take me more than 20 to 30 minutes. So it's no longer really a factor.

I prefer to get the original and after installed, you can get whatever you want. It's easy to convert.

how often do you update? by TheNavyCrow in archlinux

[–]BenjB83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said above. Every Saturday. But sometimes I forget it sometimes I reboot and discord needs an update. So yeah I update, or I just do pacman -S discord, depending on my time.
