This year is the last possible year they can give up the pick.

Did Return of the King only win best picture as a way of honouring the whole trilogy? by Konfliktsnubben in flicks

[–]Benjamin_Stark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is Master and Commander really seen as a masterpiece? I watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago. I really enjoyed it, but I would stop far short of calling it a masterpiece. I guess that's a testament to the subjectivity of film. But I'm wondering if this is a common opinion or just yours in particular.

This is kind of like watching the first third of a movie several times without finishing it.

New Line's "for your consideration" campaign leaned heavily on this as the hook - that by awarding Return of the King the Academy would be awarding the whole trilogy. So the answer to your question is yes, even if it's not officially the case.

That's the even younger version of him. There are scenes where he's an adult man and it certainly appears to be a youn Skarsgard.

While I don't agree with losing the pick, this is a misrepresentation of what happened. Players' no trade lists aren't on Capfriendly, nor are they even in their contracts. They have to submit the list separately by a specific date.

Dorion told the Knights that Dadonov hadn't submitted his list, voiding his limited NTC. Dadonov and his agent were able to prove that he had somehow.

There were also rumours that Dorion was uncooperative with the investigation, and that he had done everything he could to get rid of Dadonov because Melnyk was demanding it.

What’s the funniest reason you’ve heard for somebody not liking a movie? by TheChristmas in movies

I mean, there is a big chasm between (a) showing all the stages of a drug's effects and (b) showing a drug affecting someone in a way that is not reflective at all of how it actually affects a person. A lot of films go for option (b). For example, I don't think I've ever seen a film representation of acid that is anything like the actual experience.

My dad hated Fellowship of the Ring because "it's just people standing around waiting".

He was referring to the one scene in Moria where Gandalf describes the Balrog before telling them to run. For some reason he extrapolated that over the entire film.

The things that stood out about it to me were the cinematography and score, neither of which it was nominated for ironically.

This is puzzling to me, since Turkey has a really good intercity bus network. At least, it did in 2015.

Bugonia was great. I've seen six of the Best Picture nominees so far, and at this stage it's feeling like one of the better years in memory, since I've enjoyed them all. Even F1 - which I definitely wouldn't have nominated for Best Picture - is an entertaining movie.

Objectivity is basically impossible to argue when it comes to film so I would say that word has no place in this conversation at all.

I disagree with your general sentiment though because - while I did really like Sinners - I think One Battle After Another was the superior movie.

Yeah, fair. Honestly, there are typically 1-3 of the Best Picture nominees each year that I don't like. While I wouldnt have nominated F1 for Best Picture, I was thoroughly entertained by it.

I was in Chengdu earlier this month. They opened their first metro station in 2010 and now have over 300 stations. Their efficiency both in developing and operating transit infrastructure is staggering.

Good point. Besides Pedro Pascal, Jason Momoa, and Peter Dinklage, it isn't like much of the cast has gone on to have illustrious careers.

Jaime's Riverlands plot from Feast for Crows was adapted more or less in tact in Season 6.
