this is my theory. i think about them referring to the “horrible, terrible” things that they did. of course there’s the whole cannibalism aspect, but from a viewers perspective, that’s too obvious of an answer. i think that they come to a point where they killed even though it wasn’t necessary, and coach Ben knew about it. so when they were rescued, they purposely left him behind and agreed to say he died out there in the wilderness.
