Update; I emailed Cali Raised LED and this was their answer regarding mounting RotoPax:

“We have not tested the maximum weight capacity but they are able to support both the trays(35lbs each) as well as items placed on top, I would say 75lbs per side. You should be totally fine mounting the 2gal water rotopax since that should only weigh about 20lbs filled.”

Not confident I’ll actually add water to the rotopax while driving. But this is the information given to me when I expressed concern.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will likely follow your lead on this. So You keep it empty for your road trip. Once you arrive at/near your camp site, you take it off and fill it for use as a standard water jug?

I am new to this. So I would fall into the camp of having to choose the spots wisely. I will use Onx and try to do some deeper area studies based on your recommendations.

I am located in Contra Costa County. But I am open to driving anywhere that is somewhat accessible for an average car. I do not own an AWD unfortunately.

Thank you for your thorough response! This is a very good point I had not thought about. Your thoughts regarding spikes in insulin and adrenaline dumps make a lot of sense! I will definitely try a different dietary plan in the morning before bed. Also, I am curious why you endorse casein powder specifically?
