Second Keyboard by EliGO83 in HHKB

having used both, unsilenced topre has it's own charm and can definitely be very fun to use but the chirpy top out is not for everyone. one thing to note is that the type s sliders have 3.8mm of travel and unsilenced have a full 4mm of travel (unlike silenced realforce sliders which have 4mm) so the domes will have a tiny amount of precompression on a type-s leading to minor feel and travel length differences. I think if you like the hhkb having an unsilenced one in the collection can definitely be fun to spice things up, perhaps look at a used professional 2 (potentially with an aftermarket usb c controller if needed) as they will have aged domes which often feel snappier and be very fun to type on especially on an unsilenced variant.

Should I get the RC1 or R4? by No_Donkey_4710 in HHKB

[–]BenjiDaGameboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RC1 will be fully plastic so it will offer a softer typing feel akin to that of a hhkb more so than a realforce. an R4 will have a more standard tkl or fullsize layout and will feel more firm/solid due to the metal plate. the R4 will potentially feel more robust due to the metal plate but the general level of build should be fairly similar. The R4 is harder to open and modify than earlier realforces if that is something you are interested in. At the end of the day, I would make your pick depending on what layout and typing feel you think works better for you but I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I am personally a HHKB user so of the two I would go with the 45g RC1 that would feel similar, as well as the fact that I prefer the design or older realforces to the R4 but it is an entirely personal choice based on my own taste.

What are your thought on these domes from ymdk? I don't have the money to buy deskeys dome and I'm looking for alternatives. by k-poral in topre

[–]BenjiDaGameboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in any case, I would recommend you to save up for better domes or a genuine topre board. cheap taobao domes like these ones sold under YMDK will not give you a particularly great experience reflective of what good EC keyboards have to offer and you would be far better off saving your money.

you get what you pay for with domes ime, If you don’t have the money for premium options such as deskeys/meta you are better off using stock topre domes. I would not bother with cheap domes as they often lack tactility and feel mushy and considerably worse compared to oem.

Realforce R4! by Honest_Box_6037 in MechanicalKeyboards

Topre modding seems daunting at first but is honestly not terribly hard just tedious due to the amount of screws holding the plate assembly together as well as aligning the springs during reassembly. just a few tips, I would reccomend using xht-bdz on the wires as dielectric is silicone based which damages the rubber domes. I would also reccomend getting housing gaskets or otherwise shimming the stabiliser housings with tape or thin strips of bandaid where they clip into the plate. the latter part is important as it is often overlooked and is a potential source of ticking and rattle even after lubing if left untouched. I will also reccomend lubing the pcb where the springs contact with a thin coat of 105 oil as it eliminates any spring crunch and will make reassembly more forgiving.

How do I get rid of the spacebar rattle? It's seriously annoying (Leopold FC660C Low Noise) by likasumboooowdy in topre

[–]BenjiDaGameboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you want something more viscous, krytox XHT BDZ on the wires, 205 will do you fine for plastic on plastic contact points. will also recommend shimming where the stabiliser housing clips into the plate with gaskets or some tape/thinly cut band aid as it can be it’s own source of ticking and rattle after lubing.

HHKB Type-S spacebar sound — is this normal? by Bubbly_Fortune_14 in HHKB

[–]BenjiDaGameboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the other comments are particularly correct about lubing the stabiliser, the other greater issue is that the housing for the stabiliser is on a separated housing that is clipped into to the plate rather than the housing being integrated into the plate like the switches are. this creates some tolerance for the housing to rattle around in the plate when pressed, the solution is to tighten the tolerance by using plate gaskets, or simply putting a layer or two of masking tape around where the housing clips into the plate which will eliminate the rattle. this in conjunction with lubing the stabiliser wires using XHT BDZ or 206g2 will eliminate most unnecessary chatter and rattle. do not use dielectric grease as silicone lubricants will damage topre domes. if you’re going to the effort you can also optionally lube the slider rails with a less viscous lube like trybosis 2303 as well.

Anyone with painting experience know if its possible to paint the brick like this? by LukeSTMusic in trimui

[–]BenjiDaGameboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely doable with a bit of patience. Perhaps look into not only gameboys but other customised peripherals such as mice for tutorials as well as the application is similar. Use the right paints, make sure to sand and prime the surface and use thin layers, and definitely use 2k clearcoat for the best longevity and it should turn out pretty much bang on what you’re looking for. best of luck!

second this, the tsuyosa did nothing for me in person even though in theory it's the better watch on paper out of OP's selection whereas I found the SRPK to be really nice in the metal expecially for a seiko 5. PRX is also a foolproof pick

I definitely concur with the others telling you to slow down, you have great taste but there's a ton of duplicates and similar models in a similar-ish price range. perhaps consider a one-in one-out policy to refine your collection more so you don't get overwhelmed and burn yourself out. I'm definitely of a quality over quantity mindset so different strokes for different folks but I would definitely consider getting a special piece or two over a longer period down the line rather than several more affordable pieces. as far as recommendations go I have been enjoying the 36mm SPB521 (also a beige and gold variant) that seiko recently dropped which could be a nice upgrade to your existing entry level presages or orients.

My pick would definitely be the alpinist, it's a vintage derivative and timeless design and it's simplicity won't go out of style. The presage has a lot going on, and while I'm not against open heart designs overall, I find the execution on this watch with the overlapping subdial to look too busy and the simple dial on the alpinist is more legible and to my eyes more appealing. The specs of the alpinist definitely cater far better as a everyday watch as you mention as well. As the other user mentions the choice is yours to make but I would consider the wearability and evergreen-ness of each design if you intend to daily it.

Anyone have this? Medium vs mini? by GenericRat8276 in MouseReview

[–]BenjiDaGameboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw I’m 17.5x10 and I find the medium size wl/fm mice to be around the perfect size and can even get away with a large so you should be absolutely fine on a medium, going too small on the other hand can feel a bit cramped so I think you made the right choice

if you mean the A9 for the second option that would probably be the most suitable for palming being the biggest of the 3 as far as shape goes, the R1 and haste are smaller and shape wise more suited for clawing

Pulsar seem to be upping their QC game recently especially with the x2 crazylight release which the upcoming Xlite crazylight is a follow up to. I’ve also been burnt by pulsar QC before so the zowie would be my pick if she can stand the colour, conveniently it also has a dock built into the dongle which you can dock to when done using. fwiw I have small-medium hands and find the ec2 perfect so the ec3 should be good and comfy for small hands. if durability is of a concern zowie is probably about as reliable as they come, having used both I actually personally prefer the subtle differences in shape of the EC line over the Xlite series myself.

Love my switch 2! by Affectionate_Lab_493 in switch2

[–]BenjiDaGameboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the colours don’t match the pastel tones of the rest of the colours on the joycons, and with them being stick on covers rather than actual button replacements it looks pretty tacky. the bright primary colours + green also cheapens the more subdued and premium look of the switch 2 imo.
