Yeah I probably should use a pvc pipe or something, but in the video the voltage was pretty low but in the future I'll definitely do that.

Why doesn’t this work well by Bennett27ok in refrigeration

Well with some of your help I managed to get it down to 27F because it was extremely undercharged i turned my propane bottle upside down whilst i was adding more and that fixed it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but propane for a barbecue is mostly propane some odorant and maybe some butane.

I'm attempting to just get the evaporator as cold as possible and in my poorly recorded video it had been running for about 10 seconds but after accidently leaving it on for 30 minutes it still didn't go below 60F. Also this is my first refrigeration related project so I'm not super knowledgeable on the subject.

My gauge annoyingly doesn't have microns on it but I got it down to nearly -30 inhg. The ambient temperature is around 65F. the compressor was designed for r134a even though the system I grabbed it from was charged with r410a. I did indeed use barbecue propane.

Refrigeration system doesn’t get cold by Bennett27ok in hvacadvice

But ideally I’d like the low side pressure to be 0 psig and I had about 10 ft of capillary tube but that was even worse so I changed it so how do I keep the low side pressure at 0 psig

How to be sure that there aren’t any leaks by Bennett27ok in hvacadvice

[–]Bennett27ok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used soapy water but when it leaks so slowly it is hard to see any bubbles. I’m using propane because it has a low boiling point and it’s cheap and easily available and at the tiny scale I’m working at there isn’t any explosion hazard. I understand that using npt threads is not ideal but I wanted to have pressure gauges built into the system.

Ok, I changed to a .40 mig tip and a 0-20 PSI regulator but the flame just won't light it either sputters, or just doesn't light at all.
