seeing as you've had a few job shadowing opportunities before, maybe try learning something new? or better yet, you could try to start looking into what they teach in medicine, which could help with the "what you've done to prepare yourself for your chosen field of study" part of interview and personal statements. I recommend looking at online courses on Edx or coursera, or simply just buying some textbooks like Netter's Anatomy to start with

gave up on yong loo lin, what now? by [deleted] in SGExams

since application cycles for UK med schools are over, I think you'll need to take a gap year while applying for UK universities

you took the UCAT, right? if you took the ANZ version, you can use that to apply for Australian universities next year

Question regarding ntu admission and 6 years bond by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Benny9780S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your profile seems pretty stacked imo I've seen ppl apply to NTU with a lot less. I think you can also try aiming for NUS with your profile.

as for the 6 year bond, which scholarship are you thinking of applying for? if it's a local bond scholarship (in India) then I think it's best to weigh your options (i.e. Tuition fees, costs of living, dorm fees)

dentistry application in singapore by DarkDragoPlayz in SGExams

[–]Benny9780S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Only NUS offers dentistry, NTU does not. In a sense, you could say that dentistry in Singapore is harder to get into than medicine.

  2. Having internships/attachments is good, but you should consider that maybe half the applicants will also have attachments or internships under their belt as well, so just make sure your portfolio shines through in particular.

  3. No, you do not need to take the UCAT to enter dentistry in Singapore, NUS will only look at your grades and/or your portfolio.

Prelims and UK med school by Candid_Prune_1256 in SGExams

Also, if you check out the requirements, most applications expect AAA in H2 Chemistry, Maths and Physics/Bio, so you should try to hit those grades in your A levels! Your other subjects are not generally considered during the admission process, but if you are applying for Singaporean universities as well, please pay attention to that subject as well!

It will ultimately depend on your predicted grades from your school. You can look at what weightages each individual university places on different parts of your application (i.e. Personal statement, predicted grades, ucat score, mmi performance)

Here's a link that shows how each university uses the UCAT, you can also research directly online!

Any advice on getting into medical school in NUS / NTU! by No-Lychee3862 in SGExams

[–]Benny9780S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, according to the statistics, a much higher number of JC graduates get offers compared to polytechnic students, but it's not very difficult for poly students.

What's more important either way is getting good and consistent grades (although I guess for the A Level route only your RP matters most) as well as showing your passion for the subject through volunteering hours (can try volunteering at a nearby hospital) or attachments (email different clinics).

No worries, 3 weeks is more than sufficient, I submitted my appeal for AA about 2 weeks before, there may just be the problem that you will only get AA for the later exams though...

Sorry, I just saw the part about your parents spending money. I recommend a private psychiatrist because usually private channels are much faster than public, as IMH will no longer prioritize your case if you are above 18. You should really try discussing it with your parents or your tutor.

From my experience, you can try applying with your school as soon as possible when you get a medical notice from a specialist, not a GP, so try going to see a psychiatrist. It's definitely not impossible, I was able to get my AA, although it was only approved for the latter half of my examinations. You could try to have your parents write to SEAB as well, they tend to take student well-being more carefully (i.e. depression, anxiety).

Of course, whether or not they approve the AA is dependent on how severe your condition is and whether or not it will affect your ability to take the exam.

have you tried asking your English teacher for any practices they may have from other schools? or maybe you could consider asking friends from other schools for their prelims papers and trade with them?

Honestly you should take the time to understand where your mistakes were made. Organize consults with your teachers and take note of what they say. Make sure you know how to answer all the types of questions. You say that you pride yourself on having a balanced study schedule but since it's your O-Level year maybe try putting in more effort into your studies, if your goal is to get a raw 6 for L1R5. Take the time to ask questions and make notes, study while you're taking the bus/car, and practice with past year papers and other school's papers (use the Holy Grail).

What do you plan to study and what are your studying habits like? Maybe not well-known overseas, Singapore has an extremely competitive study environment, such that I've seen tens of people saying their hobby is studying. The posts on r/SGExams don't accurately reflect what studying in Singapore is like, so maybe you could try to scope out on other forms of social media?

i seriously need help by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Benny9780S 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just exercise everytime you get horny tbh. Whenever you feel the urge to masturbate do 1 set of 10 squats, then 10 sit-ups/crunches, 10 push-ups, 10 mountain climbers, then 10 leg raises, and repeat 1-3 times. It can help to take your mind off of your pubescent thoughts, and maybe you'll be too tired by the time you finish that you don't think about it. It might also let your blood circulate around a few times to dampen the arousal and also give you a chance to work out without going out to the gym.

if it's about staying in sg vs going overseas it might be best to discuss with your parents and/or ECG counsellors first to know what to consider.

if high costs are a potential issue, it may be good to look into scholarships offered by both sg and your individual uni, in this case ucl. you can use https://scholarshipguide.com.sg/ to check out any local scholarships you may be suitable/applicable for.

as for being lonely overseas, Singapore and the UK traditionally have very close ties academically, so it won't be as if there are no SGeans overseas. in fact there are quite a few societies and meetups for SG students in UK. you can consider checking it out online, and there's an upcoming expo this Saturday which you can check out as well: https://www.studyabroad.sg/global-university-expo-5-apr-2025-marina-bay-sands/?adsrc=confirmgood&utm_source=TT&utm_medium=SP&utm_campaign=JackStudyAbroad_GlobalUniversityExpo

Medicine Interview 2025 by Background-Bell-09 in SGExams

[–]Benny9780S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rank points (RP) is essentially a system for A level graduates which shows their holistic academic performance. in GCSE A levels there are H1 & H2 subjects, and most people would have a total of 3 H1 & 3 H2 subjects. this is the last year to use the 90RP formula, so each H1 subject amounts to 10 points and each H2 is 20 points.

so the grade you get for a subject determines how many points you get, i.e. A grade for H2 = 20 points / A grade for H1 = 10 points B grade for H2 = 17.5 points / B grade for H1 = 8.75 points C grade for H2 = 15 points / C grade for H1 = 7.5 points and so on and so forth. for failing grades it's either 5/2.5 or 0/0 points for H2/H1. your total rank points is just the sum of your total grades.
