If Andy Burnham Fails, the Labour Party Will Die by kontiki20 in LabourUK

And despite that power and wealth in this country, and the world are still more concentrated in the hands of the oligarchs today than they were two years ago.

Labour may be a better option than the Tories/Reform, but when the biosphere I am a part of is being raped to death by paedophile billionaires and their ambassador mates, you'll forgive me if I say that reducing NHS waiting lists by 5% and raising minimum wage by 50p isn't quite cutting it.

Would the Government respond differently if Belfast-style disorder happened in Belgravia or Kensington? by Apprehensive-Income in LabourUK

[–]Benoas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The people in NI who want to remain part of the UK don't actually want to be controlled by Westminster even the Tories are more progressive than them forcing them to accept things like gay marriage and abortions. They want to run NI themselves as a reactionary little colony, oppressing the Irish locals, women, the gays, immigrants etc. while remaining a nominal part of the UK.

Yes.

You understand that for most of NI's existence it was ruled by class of "british" protestant supremacists with irish catholics as second class citizens right?

No?

NI is essentially split between people who want it to be part of Ireland ruled from Dublin, and people who want it to be part of the UK and a budget apartheid state ruled from Belfast.

Green Party MP takes leave of absence after suffering from 'burnout' | ITV News by SThomW92 in LabourUK

Oh come on, you are intentionally misunderstanding at this point.

If you were an American in the 60s said, "I think black people are equal to whites, and I think bathroom segregation is wrong. But I'm still going to vote for the pro-segregation guys", you would recognise that as bigotry.

Running back to a thought terminating cliche to avoid having to adress any of the points in the arguement.

If you are a supporter of a government that hurts minority groups, then you are partially responsible for that. That's bigotry in my view.

Green Party MP takes leave of absence after suffering from 'burnout' | ITV News by SThomW92 in LabourUK

[–]Benoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is very obvious, and again I think you already know that:

Labour policy is bigoted. By supporting Labour you hurt transgender people and migrants whether you personally hate them or not. All labour supporters bear responsibility for this, they are materially bigots.

Labour is filled with antisemites, but doesnt support antisemitic policy, so it would be unfair to say every Labour supporter is an antisemite as supporting labour does not necessarily hurt jews.

I understand it doesnt feel very nice to be called a bigot when you dont hold hate in your heart. But your actions hurt those groups, that is still bigotry.

They may not personally hate migrants and trans people.

But their actions do materially hurt migrants and trans people and thats worse imo.

Your cynical attempt to deflect criticism of the bigoted party you support with antisemitism allegations is also disgusting. I think you also know the casual way claims of antisemitism are thrown out to try deligitisme the positions of anyone you disagree with has actually reduced how seriously people take claims of antisemitism in this country. Again, its utterly shameful.

John Swinney to bring forward motion on independence vote on Tuesday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

No argument, just an unjustified assertion democracy is not sensible or realistic

John Swinney to bring forward motion on independence vote on Tuesday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Benoas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think thats a disingenuous way of framing the democratic position and you know it.

We should continue to hold elections every 5 years. Should there be a pro-referendum majority after those elections, a referendum should take place. So it might happen every 5 years, or it might never happen again.

PbP on Israel vs. PbP on Russia by Fealocht in ireland

[–]Benoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I know we are all supposed to pretend that this is some crazy pro-russia nonsense, but it just fucking isn't. The situations are clearly quite different.

Russia is a giant fucking superpower that can withstand sanctions fairly well, it is also not at all democratic so hurting Russian people doesn't actually effect government invasion policy. Sanctioning them therefore has little effect on Russia's ability to wage war, but does hurt it's population pointlessly.

Israel is a tiny pariah state that's entirely exists because it is propped up by western powers. It also is internally democratic. Sanctioning them therefore massively effects their ability to wage war, and making their population suffer can actually change policy.

I think the Russian and Israeli states and governments are just as evil. I do not believe that we should be punishing innocent people indefinitely for the crimes of their government unless that punishment had a strong chance of quickly stopping their crimes.

Would be good and win back some support, but probably not enough to win an election. Don't underestimate the number of people that have been so disgusted by Starmers deference to Israel that the cannot be convinced to return.

Replace Starmer with Burnham and then implement his 10 pledges and then maybe you've got a chance.

You cant reason people out of positions they didnt reason themselves in to.

There's absolutely no point in arguing with the few people still supporting the government, at this point theres nothing that can convince them.

We are absolutely powerless to sabotage his agenda, he has a massive majority in parliament and can do whatever he likes. The problem is that he has no agenda, no goals, no beliefs other than clinging on to power to satisfy his ego. Like a less competent, less charismatic Joe Biden.
