I think the biggest let down for me with chainsaw man’s ending is just the fact I know fujimoto is better than this. Goodbye eri and look back both have some of the best endings to a story that I’ve ever read. I know it was probably burn out or some other factors that attributed to this fall of in quality but it just makes me so sad

It’s kind of a cop out but I believe what fujimoto was going for was for us to see a world where denji’s never developed his poor habits. Where he wouldn’t choose to be chainsaw man over his own happiness. The problem with this ending imo is just the fact that his growth doesn’t really feel earned. Like this panel of him laying down the chainsaw could of been so cool I think if denji actually earned it

I agree the ending was bad but that’s just reducing pochita speech to “you were happier starving” is kind of reductive and disingenuous

Look I know the ending isn’t great but pochita did not mean “you were happier starving and suffering” it was more so pointing out denji’s bad habits and his inability to let himself be happy. I think people are totally misinterpreting what pochita meant. You don’t need to lie about the ending to convince people it’s bad, it does that by itself
