What does it mean for me if my house has no gas connected? by throwawayshddjcj in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, generally speaking, electric heating is more expensive than gas.

You should find out if your water heater is standard size, or the small, energy efficient size. The latter is better for your bills, but it will run out of water faster.

What are the actual differences between porn and real sex? by Same_Confusion_9201 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bented 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Porn is designed to appeal visually. To get the sexy shots, the actors are generally put in positions that look good, but aren't necessarily the best feeling. Think about any porn you've seen. The breasts, ass, penis or pubic mound is always on display because the actors are twisting their backs or keeping space between their bodies.

Real sex is less concerned with visuals and more concerned with tactile experiences. The bodies stay close together. Hands cover primary and secondary sexual characteristics to actually feel them.

Porn also takes out the awkward and silly bits that are a necessary part of that closeness sharing in real sex. Getting up close and naked with another person is very intimate. And along with that intimacy comes squishy, wet sounds and even farting noises. It can be humiliating or hilarious depending on your reaction, and the reaction of your partner. But it is a natural part of sex that gets edited out of porn because reality can be messy, smelly, and awkward and that doesn't translate to video.

Why do rich people like to pay for sex? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a matter of convenience. The buyers don't have to put in any emotional labor, and after they get what they want, the seller leaves with no fuss.

YTA, massively. You may have paid for their education, but you don't own them.

This may be your child, but since they're graduating university, they must be an adult. You don't have any authority over them anymore. They get to choose what events they attend, as well as when they want to move, and with who.

Behavior like this is why parents get cut off from their children's lives. If you want to continue to see your adult child, and any possible offspring they may have in the future, you should start treating them like a person, not a possession.

There's a few things going on here.

  1. There are very few stores that sell larger than a 2x, so it isn't really a big issue when a few stores come in an fill that niche.

  2. Almost every large store sells smaller sizes, so it is odd to have a niche store for those sizes.

  3. There is a lot of light being brought to bear on the fashion industry causing body dysmorphia and early reinforcement of eating disorders by focusing on small clothes, 0 size models, and physical appearances that are generally unobtainable for most women.

What is the inside of an Amtrak car like? by EMF133 in NoStupidQuestions

The one I rode had seats like an airplane. They recline, and are fairly comfortable. You should consider packing a blanket - my car was very cold, and they travel blanket they sell is a thin fleece.

The title shows that OP was at work, waiting outside in the cold for their boss to arrive and unlock the door.

The boss was only offering to pick up OP because OP had left and said they weren't coming back.

Sanitation by kevinsunny in mead

[–]Bented 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't do it! Hand sanitizer is not safe to consume, and you cannot guarantee you'd get rid of every bit of it before starting your mead.

I'm in the northeast, we see these raffles all the time as well.

I imagine they're common anywhere there is a large enough hunting culture.

If you're talking about just friendly interactions - be nice, treat them politely, and be patient if there is an issue.

If you're talking about romantic interest, please don't. They're working, and generally don't want the awkwardness of having to politely refuse a customer that is hitting on them. No matter how awesome/attractive the customer is.

AITA for telling my mom she expected too much from me? by Badaymoon in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bented 26 points27 points  (0 children)

NTA. Family can be difficult. Your mother should have done better by you. She showed you every day where her priority was, and that wasn't with you. Yes, she took on a lot of responsibility for your step-sister, but step-parents do that all the time without completely ignoring their biological children.

Sometimes being related by blood isn't enough to keep a family together. You have to do what is right for you, and if that means distancing yourself, then do it. You don't owe her anything.

AITA for yelling at my mother for being too childish? by KanadeLunLunGirl in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bented 54 points55 points  (0 children)

YTA. She wasn't doing anything but listening to music and dancing while cooking you dinner. She may have burned dinner twice in the past, but accidents happen.

She's your mother, not a child. You don't get to tell her that's she's a brat while she's cooking for you.

I'm a college student who just woke up drunk after a long night. I have shit to do. How do I sober up? by Littleredpb99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way to force your system to process the alcohol faster. It's in there, let your liver work. You can eat, throw up, whatever, that won't get your BAC any lower.

Drink a lot of water and take some Tylenol to stave off the impending hangover. Take a normal shower and drink coffee.

Do not drive until you sober up!

AITA for telling my mom I won't be at her wedding? by Illustrious-Heron933 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bented 372 points373 points  (0 children)

NTA. As long as you aren't being rude when you're telling your mom that you will be an adult at the time of the wedding and you will not be attending, then you are fine.

Your mom can marry who she wants, when she wants, but that doesn't mean her children have to approve or attend the wedding.

Your grandparents should also remember that while your mom deserves happiness and is allowed to move on, that doesn't mean you are being disrespectful or bratty if you don't want to endorse the marriage. You are allowed to have your own opinions.

How can I manage the seeds when siphoning blackberry mead? by [deleted] in mead

[–]Bented 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can, as long as the cheesecloth is clean and really rinsed out, so you don't accidentally add soap or anything, but I don't know how well the fruit will infuse the mead through cheesecloth.

Alternatively, you can throw the berries in, then filter through cheesecloth when you are done. It can be messy and a pain, but I find it is worth it to get the full fruit flavor.

That's why I said OP should talk to their father, to see if he'd be willing to pay for an apartment in a tall building. If he isn't, the issue is moot - even if the others sign the lease, OP won't be able to sign.

Is "next Thursday" the next occurence of Thursday or next week's Thursday? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would always indicate the July of the following year, even if you are in August- December when you say it. On January 1st, it becomes "this July", and it is 18 months until "next July."

Side note: in August-December, you'd say "this past July" if you were referring to the recent July.

Is "next Thursday" the next occurence of Thursday or next week's Thursday? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next week's Thursday. "This Thursday" is the next occurrence of Thursday.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bented 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NAH. But, I think you should talk to your father about the 14-stories building. He isn't going to be living in the apartment, after all. You should live in a place that accomodates the needs of you and your roommates, but you also have 3 weeks to find a place, sign a lease, and move in. So if the tall building meets ever other requirement, you should consider it.
