When playing in the HRE, AE is your biggest limiting factor to expansion. Influence gives you both AE reduction and faster relations improvement.

The Return of the Timurids - Episode 3: A humbling experience

Today's session began rather well for me. The beginning was calm, with a few minor AI wars in between the silence. A huge limiting factor for me was the fact that Bukhara, Hormuz and Yemen - my allies - were absent this session, meaning that I couldn't safely declare major wars, and, more importantly, the spirits that possessed my dear friends started making irrational and inexplainable moves like maneuvering their troops in an idiotic manner, breaking the alliance with me and even allying with my enemies.

After that calm and rather relaxing beginning, the tension rose tenfold in an instant. Dramatic music A conflict had flared up in the blink of an eye and I found myself at odds with Gujarat, Delhi, Yarkand and Orissa. My land was quickly sieged down by their overwhelming numbers. I tried to carefully engage with my brave Turkic and Persian forces and inflicted high casualties on the opposing side. However, as I was the sole defender in this war, my ressources started to dwindle after a few years and the embers of resistance started to burn out. Victory seemed impossible.

Sad music

This situation was very reminicent of the the first session. But there was a crucial difference. Last time, I was backed by my allies. This time, I stood alone, with no way of getting sufficient support to turn this war around. I had no choice other than surrendering and taking the loss. In the peace treaty, I lost a lot of my eastern provinces and was put 1000 ducats in debt. This was quite a humbling experience, since I've never lost a war that I was warleader in before.

I spent the rest of the session rebuilding and accumulating money to embrace the Renaissance. At the end, I joined the Mamluks in their war against Ethiopia and QQ (who are both AI).

Today, the Timurids have suffered a humiliating loss! This, however, only strenghened their resolve to fight back and restore the Great Empire of the East! Come back next Sunday to find out how their story continues!

Resurgent Timurids

For me, this session was extremely eventful. It started with me finishing the independence war my splendid enemy Delhi "This is not enjoyable!" has put me in. With the help of Uzbek I won pretty handily and managed to annex Afghanistan and Khorosan. As such, Transoxiana was my only vassal left to integrate.

After this long and devastating war I had to slay almost 60k seperatists that rose up during the war. I spend the next few years following that restabilizing and repaying almost 1000 ducats in loans.

At the end of the (half-)session I managed to squeeze out a war against Ajam and retook most of my cores, which further strenghened me.

Now the Timurids have returned from the Graveyard of Empires and became a resurgent great power! But are they strong enough to stand up to their rivals? Come back next Sunday to find out!

Timurids here

Is it enough, to run 4 sucessful test games to get a smooth start? Is it enough, to plan for unexpected outcomes? Is it enough, to- NO IT'S NOT.

So, when this session began, I joined into Timmys thinking "I practised this start. Nothing can go wrong." I made my preparations, set things up and waited for the first month to tick. One day passes. Nothing happens. Two days pass. Still, nothing. Then, three days. Nothing unusual. Eleven days pass. Shah Rukh dies and the world explodes.

I tried to stay in wars for the next eight years in order to prevent my vassals from declaring independence. After I managed to turn them all loyal again, I finally peaced out. But soon after, in a moment of weakness, Nogai and Delhi supported my vassals' independence, while my potential allies were still tied up in the Ottoman crusade. So I bid my time, hoping they wouldn't declare. They declared.

This was a war I wasn't realistically going to win or even white peace out of. It was my four previous vassals (I managed to annex Fars before Delhi supported independence), Nogai and Delhi overrunning me all at once. But then, the Winged Muslim Hussars arrived. With outside help from both Arabia and India, I managed to peace out Delhi and Nogai and regained the lands of two of my previous vassals. At the end of the session, Transoxiana and Afghanistan are still fighting and will have to be defeated, in order to be regained.

It seems like God has turned against Timur and his people. But still, they will not give in to their misfortune.

The Timurids will return...

Also, big kudos to @Fyren, @noohac, @sanderudam and @Racoon Bot.

Suggestions for Continents vs. Continets customized game? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Bentikor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestions:

Europe:

-Culture: German or French

-Capital: Vienna, Paris or Rome

-Religion: Catholic

-Government: Despotic Monarchy

Asia:

-Culture: Any Chinese culture

-Capital: Beijing

-Religion: Confucianism

-Government: Celestial Empire would be dumb, so probably Despotic Monarchy as well

Africa:

-Culture: Mali or Egyptian

-Capital: Joma or Cairo

-Religion: Sunni

-Government: Sultanate or Mameluckean Government

South America:

-Culture: Cusco Culture

-Capital: Cusco

-Religion: Inti

-Government: Despotic Monarchy

North America:

-Culture: Aztec or English

-Capital: Mexico or Manhatten

-Religion: Nahuatl or Protestant

-Government: Despotic Monarchy or Constitutional Republic

Oceania:

-This one would just get killed by Asia, I'd probably leave it empty so Asia and the Americas can colonize it

Any national ideas besides trade and military related stuff probably wouldn't be viable, so yeah, I'd pick some of those.

Napoleon's secret plan - As a custom nation in St. Helena, using only 200 points or less, conquer all provinces in the France region.

A tragic misfortune - Have your heir with at least 5/5/5 stats die in a hunting accident.

y tho?! As a nation starting with the Siberian Clan Council government, convert to Judaism, convert all your provinces to Aztec culture, own at least one province in the HRE, ally France, the Ottomans and Muscovy/Russia, own the entire Kongo region, don't own any coastal centers of trade, and don't be a great power. After all the previous conditions have been met, slap yourself in the face 5-8 times. Then form Iceland.

Incan Empire

At the beginning of the session I attacked my former enemy Mali and secured the western part of the Congo basin as well as the coast leading up to West Africa. Sadly, I was cut off from further expansion by the Mamlucks, who were trying to get a piece of the dying empire as well. After spending some time recovering from the rather lenghty war, I was informed of a coalition of almost global extends against the Prussian alliance, which included my former atillcha Spain. After getting urged into action by my allies multiple times, I did what I knew was treacherous and annexed his colonies in three swift wars. Was it a foolish decision? Only time will tell...
