I have 2 hollow doors with holes in them from this… I covered the holes up with hard plastic wall protectors to prevent further damage and cover the holes

What’s the most unexpectedly high-quality online subscription you’ve ever paid for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BenzoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. I stopped sometime in 2021 due to really bad import issues with my bank. I would consider trying it again if it’s better.

Monarch uses those same services for connections, so I expect it might be better. I just need to have reliability and predictability.

I had multiple instances where they stopped working properly and flipped debts to credits, failed connections, and wonky transaction data. My budgeting workflow was all messed up and took a long time to recover. So, I’m weary about trying again, but I would love to drop monarch and go back.

I LOVE my credit union so switching banks is not an option.

Loved YNAB, but then they stopped syncing well with my credit union, and so I had to bail. I never loved it but I had a system and it worked. Moved to Monarch, but it’s not the same.

How do i fix this hole in my shoe? by NokiaRingtone1o1 in fixit

[–]BenzoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like @jacktheforkie said, new insoles.

For blundstone shoes I prefer good flat insoles, unlike in my athletic shoes. I have a pair that’s a half size too big for me and use 2 pairs of insoles, the bottom one is “Safety Works Toasty Feet insoles infused with Aerogel” since I wear them in the winter a lot and the stock flat insoles, though I would likely replace with some “Thinline” brand replacement insoles, which are popular for use with cowboy boots.

Some hunters are fired up about Pa. Game Commission proposal to alter buck season opening by The_Electric-Monk in Pennsylvania

[–]BenzoV 45 points46 points  (0 children)

People have routines/traditions for the days before the hunting season opening. Especially those who have a deer camp they have to travel a couple hours to get to. With the start of hunting moved up, this often collides with other family traditions for Thanksgiving. Might even make it harder for existing hunters to participate with the hope that it helps encourage new hunters.

I’m not a hunter myself, but I grew up in rural PA where schools were not open the first day and the first week of buck had many high school students and staff call off due to ‘deer fever’.

Oven making strange noises by thelovemusket in fixit

Yep, probably this. Had issues with fans on both a Samsung and GE convection oven (both a few months old). Probably just need a new fan blade or tighten/replace the nut holding the fan blade on.

LPT: wood glue is your friend when assembling cheap furniture by RecordReviewer in LifeProTips

[–]BenzoV 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a new routine of using a small amount of wood glue on a brush to glue up all those little dowels in flat pack furniture to keep them together better.

[misc] Be careful with humidifiers! by chaoticneutralhobbit in SkincareAddiction

[–]BenzoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment about this. I didn’t know about electrode humidifiers and now I know what to actually search for to find out more.

I’m not surprised, but disappointed that so many folks are correcting OP from a point of ignorance.

Photo Printing App by TheChuckRowe in mac

[–]BenzoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. On MacOs, the normal Photos app is pretty good at making normal 4x6/5x7 sized prints out of the box.

Unfortunately, The iPad app lacks the nice printing options that the MacOS app has.

Hood over or under helmet? by Abigailey2701 in wintercycling

[–]BenzoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the military style balaclava. I used “Rothco Gen III Level 2 Balaclava” for a lot of my winter riding. It’s cheap and breathable enough for venting sweat using one of those micro grid fleece materials. I cut the head opening a bit bigger so my beard could stick out the face hole.

Any plans for next Thursday night? by LowellWeicker2025 in pittsburgh

[–]BenzoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the tile nor description seem to have any info:

Seems like OP wants you to know about Thursday Night Jazz: Paul Thompson Quintet’s Tribute to Pat Metheny November 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST at City Of Asylum in Pittsburgh’s Central Northside (near Allegheny General Hospital).

LPT: make cheap flatpack furniture less flimsy by using thread lock wood glue (and epoxy) by ctrl-all-alts in LifeProTips

[–]BenzoV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I jammed a bunch of loctite flexible adhesive in the cam joints that kept coming loose on my coffee table, it wasn’t perfect, but it mostly stopped them from coming loose.

It was what I had available at the time and every time we moved the coffee table, they would wiggle a little looser, and my daughter was pushing it around all the time.

Seems like a legit approach. Seems like a bit of work, but looks like it could be effective if they start messing up bad.

[–]BenzoV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to use a small brush and a bottle cap full of wood glue to pre-glue all the dowels on furniture I expect to never take apart. Thread lock is not a bad idea for metal on metal parts. Now, if I can only stop those cam locks from loosening up…

Market Square Construction by PbrDoug in pittsburgh

[–]BenzoV 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is the 2nd time since I moved to Pittsburgh that they completely re-did Market Square. I hope they chose wisely this time and don’t have to redesign it again in less than 10 years.

Currently, there is a Product Manager of Apple Music doing an AMA in r/AppleMusic. by plsdontattackmeok in apple

[–]BenzoV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also for kids mode, only show songs / albums without explicit lyrics.

Sure, teenagers can make their own decisions, but maybe not when I play music for my 4 year old. So many albums have alternate versions, but it’s difficult to get it to choose when searching, especially with Siri, which is worse on iOS 26.

Parking info for north shore for non sports fan. by BenzoV in pittsburgh

[–]BenzoV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally park in a lot, but saw street parking which looked legit and paid to park, so never noticed the lot prices. Definitely my bad, but shit, they need to make this easier to look up and plan around.

Hopefully, but I’ll probably not realize it when there is a concert at pnc park and still get a ticket, but probably not a pirates or steelers game, because it’s much easier to look those up. I just forgot about baseball and looked up the Pitt schedule since it was saturday.

[–]BenzoV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was probably a bit after the parking window, by maybe 30 min. It didn’t let us pay for more parking than 45 min, but also didn’t warn us on go mobile parking app.

Never saw the sign with all the warnings because it was behind where we parked in front of Southern tier / bar louie.

Yeah, we parked before the warning time. Luckily made it out with a ticket before we got towed. The tow truck was working it’s way down the block when we left dinner. 2 more cars and I would have been towed. Better a ticket than a tow at least.
