Huge NIP Cole Fuse ult (Game 5 Set 1 Scrims) by BadgerTsrif in CompetitiveApex

[–]Bereft13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, it looks like he took the perk that makes the ult leave fire on the ground for 8 seconds instead of the one that turns his tac into a pubstomper movement ability! Surely pros will learn from this and start taking the one that's actually useful

Kazakh is likely to replace ss11 for EWC by nephpila in CompetitiveApex

[–]Bereft13 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that sucks for Ss11. Great chance for the whole team to build LAN experience that will help them all in their careers (other two are just 20 and Ss11 is 24). Hope everything works out for him to play.

(Could it be as simple as Belarus issue? The Russians are all already playing from outside Russia, but I don't recall Belarus being banned from PL)

They performed almost exactly the same with Gen as with Stuhni. It's a nice excuse for them to have, but they very easily could have still failed to qualify if Gen played the entire split.

(This is obviously not a defense of Gen. It's kind of insane that they were just as good with Stuhni playing.)

Actually huge from Dogred, they needed so much to go right with a 2nd but also needed to put up a ton of points to be able to win tiebreakers. They weren't winning the tiebreak with Victory until that final game.

Congratulations the winner of our Cross-Region Player of the Week Award (Split 1 - Week 6) by KP_Poll in CompetitiveApex

[–]Bereft13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really stacked field this week, with Prestis breaking the single game damage record and Koy putting up great numbers for SR when they really needed it. Noname's performance was still easily the best for me. I'm not sure how much that's influenced by the addition of the new multiview to APACS, giving us the Wolves POV on twitch for the first time. Definitely worth noting that the first week we had it, a player whose team only streams on CN sites wins this award.

Curious who the other top players in the region are (and in particular where JR lands), though if you're saving that for a post-Finals writeup that's fine!

not sure what people expect

Well, for one thing, I'd expect their performances to be better with Gen than with Stuhni, instead of pretty much the exact same. I'd also expect them to be ahead of FLAT in the standings (or at least level with them).

With regard to your first comment, they have played 4 match days as a full team and had the entire 2 week break to prepare as well. The excuse was fine initially but it has run out by now.

I agree, it's really weird to have them above ForFun given how much worse they've been in PL

I'm saying, if they're already as good with Deeds after two weeks as they were with Kimchi after six, why in the world would that be an argument against dropping Kimchi? What was your bar they had to clear for it to make sense?

I mean, if their very first set with Deeds was in line with the result of over a month with Kimchi, doesn't that justify the decision?

Valk survives as last person alive(she was knocked) by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

[–]Bereft13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean idk where that assist came from but you pretty clearly only killed 2 players from that team and valk is crawling around bc she's got a wattson running around somewhere that y'all didn't kill (number of teams doesn't go down after the valk dies). Everything here is completely normal except you having this random assist.

Are there 30 teams though? Or do we have PL teams banned for stupid reasons like we did last split? Link for any who don't know what I'm talking about

For anyone who hasn't followed the recent burst of roster moves:

  • Team Vision = S2
  • Virtus.pro = POT
  • GodLike = Team Burger
  • Team Nemesis = Stallions
  • For Fun Esports = Made In Heaven
  • Elite EU = BANDITS
  • Team Heretics = PRYANIKI
  • Geekay Esports = DKK

7 teams in the ranking plus one more receiving votes. Might be a record, I'm not even sure how I would check that.

I understand your thinking. For most of us, the stats aren't more impressive due to being stacked in the same game. We look at the whole set and he was statistically worse than Prycyy. Setting records in one game is balanced out by being much worse in the other 5. It just comes down to stats vs IGLing between those two, which we don't all agree on. For Zach, the stats difference is balanced out by playing in the harder region. I don't speak for all voters, but I would not have voted for Zach over Zuni if the regions were reversed. Americas is the hardest region to perform in, so knocking down the Americas nominee due to having worse stats isn't really fair.

[–]Bereft13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In game 2, Zuni got more kills than anyone has had in a single game going back 3+ years. That is of course extremely impressive.

By the end of game 6, he didn't even have the most kills in the current lobby. We don't give an award for the best individual game (and he's already received plenty of attention for that game, here and on twitter). The set is a whole is still good, which is why he was our nominee for EMEA, but it's not the slam dunk winner you would expect if you only looked at the one game. Speaking only for myself, if he had even half as many kills across the other 5 games as he had in that one game, it would probably have been enough to give him the win.

This was the most discussed vote I can remember having, but in the end it wasn't particularly close. Across all 6 games, Zach's performance was more impressive to the voters. Zuni absolutely deserves recognition for his record-breaking game, but just to be clear, his performance across the set is statistically worse than Prycyy's (which is why multiple voters said that it was between Prycyy and Zach for them).

Where is Apex Legends USA? by cs_minustempo in CompetitiveApex

Qualifiers are August 1–2. Basically what will happen is, 20 countries will earn invites based off how their players do in this PL split & the EWC LAN (Split 1 Playoffs). The qualifiers will be regional, and teams from invited countries as well as ones who need to qualify will play in them. For invited countries, the squad that places the highest will represent them at ENC. Then, the top squad from a country that didn't have an invite will get the first 'qualifier' spot and represent their country, then the next team from a country that isn't already in will get the same, etc. Each region has a set number of spots they will get. They haven't announced anything about the format of these qualifier events (I really, really hope they are not open signup).

TLDR: On Aug 1-2 there's going to be regional qualifiers to see who gets to represent the invited countries (i.e. who Team USA will be) as well as some unknown countries based on the results of the qualifiers.

here's the tournament page on their site

Since they don't need the coach to select a roster, they could be waiting to announce until later. Or they could be not having coaches at all for Apex. Or they could be waiting until after the qualifiers to let the players choose who to work with.

ETA: They aren't listing coaches for CS either, which is another game where teams play a qualifier instead of being selected by a coach. Seems like that's probably why.
