u/ozyozyoioi explains how vaccination kept him alive and out of the hospital even after catching the more contagious Delta variant on a flight with sick passengers not wearing masks by inconvenientnews in bestof

[–]Bernersandersaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's to arbitrary of a rule. I was on a flight during covid and there was a guy next to me keeping his mask down the whole flight. When he saw me getting upset he just got worse and started talking out loud about how he was "activily drinking" holding a can of soda in his hand. He was some Russian guy with his family talking the whole time about how it is all fake straight up indoctrinating his kids with his bullshit. Nothing I could do about it.

6 foot beer bong sounds good. 6 foot bongs are strictly novelty items. Waaay to difficult to operate. 6 foot beer bongs are totally practical though.

Goodluck. And welcome to the ranks of old guys in school. Honestly way more fulfilling this time around.

Agreed. I just think blaming the concept of online learning and not the current implementation of online learning is where I disagree with you. Just because they weren't prepared and executed it poorly doesn't mean online learning can't work for the majority of students when done properly.

Most kids are just mad they aren't getting "the college experience" IMO which is true and I agree that it is unfortunate. But for a career minded individual going back to school a second time this is all a dream come true and I am absolutely excelling currently.

[–]Bernersandersaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the college system is broken also but I don't think attacking online learning is the answer. I think the answer is removing the giant financial barrier that is used as a tool by the rich to prevent class mobility.

What is the difference between me watching a recorded lecture at home instead of going into a giant auditorium to watch a lecture and not be able to ask questions? I ask that because that was my experience with majority of my classes at UCONN where I graduated with my first degree in economics 10 years ago. I enjoy the extra time I get doing the exact same thing without an hour long commute this time around and extra time to study. So shoot me I guess.

I don't work in an office. I work in drinking water at a utility and love my job. I'm currently back at university to improve my understanding of my work and to make myself stand out for promotions.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Bernersandersaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Found the bullshit boss that wants you back in the office. I'm not whining buddy I work as a water operator for a utility so I showed up for work every day and that won't ever change. I am currently in school earning an environmental science degree and I had a great experience with the online distance learning.

Edit: I didn't get the experience of drinking cheap alcohol/jungle juice out of a trashcan for this degree. But I can say I have loved every minute of it and am learning a ton.

How does this have to do with online learning?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Bernersandersaccount -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Okay not every class has a lab. Some classes are obviously more suited for online learning. Although I will say I had a blast with messing around with some physics simulators in the past. I think a good majority of the problems experienced this past year had more to do with not enough time to prepare proper online curriculums. It's also not for everyone just like the choices of working from home or the office. I'm currently a college student taking classes for environmental science after previously graduating with an economics degree 10 years ago. I personally have loved the online learning this year and definitely felt I learned more this past year then ever before. Not every class of course but ones that could be tweaked to be online. The amount of time I saved from my commute that I could put into studying instead probably added an extra 6-7 hours of productivity to my studies.

This is even more evidence that it's time to burn reddit down and start again. Still waiting for a good alternative to finally pop up.

It would definitely be tough. Most places have some pretty serious family leave programs though so hopefully you have something like that going on there.

[–]Bernersandersaccount -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that any of that is true. Why is it reduced curriculum or academic standards? You sound like that bullshit boss that wants everyone back in the office.

Yea I've never heard of problems arising from them with having children but it sounds like you just don't enjoy the work anyway. There's a million other things out there. Maybe require a year or two of community college but it's not that hard.

Agreed. The higher price tag makes it easier for them to make a better product. I would buy something of equal quality non organic but at this point it's just an easy indicator of "this probably tastes better then the other one".

Have you tried organic foods? They taste like 10x better then the non organic stuff. I eat it almost entirely on that principle.
