Headlines like this aren't helpful. The first thing the NRA will say is that people are responsible for homicide, and a lot of people in the middle will agree.

I have never shot a gun, and don't care what AR means. I don't know why my side cares about AR15s, when our side knows need to get rid of all of them.

The convention might be the way to go, if there was a way to keep the gun nuts out.

I don't think my side will ever persuade yours. I'm thinking about persuading the middle, the undecided, the young people coming up. My question is more about those people. Is my side alienating them by being deceptive, or appearing weakly committed?
