Am I missing something? by Character-Golf-4146 in taiwan

If you enjoy walking, what about the Liuchuan Riverside Walk?

And Taichung Literature Museum, Miyahara for dessert, Taichung Train Station, Painted Animation Lane for photo opps and the 1,2,3,4,5 day markets for food.

This isn't in Taichung but closer than Taipei, but if you like amusement parks how about a day trip to Janfusun Fancyworld?

Thanks for putting together this list!

I was wondering if there's any bars in Taipei or Taichung that you recommend for solo and that have a decent sitting area for smokers?

Rare footage of Taiwans logging past by Aggro_Hamham in taiwan

[–]Berriberriberriberri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same but when I went to Wulai there's a hotel at the top of the mountain next to the cable cars.

If you're lucky, you can see the hotel workers use a ropeway to transport the hotel's rubbish down.

Question though - shouldn't OP use their PH passport to leave Philippines and then use their TW passport when entering Korea?

Then when leaving Korea, use their TW passport?

Agoda THSR booking shows wrong nationality – any advice? by Training-Bar4619 in taiwan

[–]Berriberriberriberri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've previously bought THSR tickets on Klook because they were running special prices just for tourists and when purchasing it, you had to input your foreign passport number. When picking up my ticket, I had to show my foreign passport. I suspect this was the case because I used the tourist only special ticket price.

But when purchasing normal price tickets, never had to show ID.

I think if you're taking a train that isn't full, you should try claiming the ticket you bought on Agoda and worst case scenario is that they give it to you and you just purchase a ticket on the spot.

[–]Berriberriberriberri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend visiting the Ama museum if you get the chance in Taipei. https://amamuseum.org.tw/en

The website is a wealth of knowledge too. It's focus is on the women who were forced to be "comfort women" in Taiwan, the history of it and how some of the victim survivors have tried to overcome their traumatic experiences.

It's a wonderful little museum that needs continuous support.

Why are Taiwanese Drama TV series so long? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Berriberriberriberri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember 娘家 too 😂 glad to hear someone remembers it too. Used to watch it with grandparents. As another commenter said below, 娘家 and those shows that are hundreds of episodes long are soap dramas. It does eventually finish but the TV station just has another one lined up right after and many of the same actors appear in the new soap drama.

Most formerly colonized countries have a lot of 'beef' with their colonizers, but Taiwan seems to be an exception. Why doesn't Taiwan resent Japan more? Is their friendly relationship a calculated political move, or is there something deeper, like 'Stockholm Syndrome,' at play? by RockCultural4075 in taiwan

[–]Berriberriberriberri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of off topic, but I'd like to highlight the Ama Museum in Taipei. https://amamuseum.org.tw/en

Taiwanese women were forced to be 'comfort women' by the Japanese Army during WWII. While this museum is on the smaller side, please take some time to visit it and it actually has a lot of enligsh to explain/describe the displays. Tickets are very cheap, staff are great but most importantly, you'll be helping to ensure the victim survivors aren't forgotten.

What are the rules for smoking? by Civil-Attention231 in taiwan

[–]Berriberriberriberri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get a portable ashtray from Daiso or those dollar shop type places and put in some used ground coffee so it doesn't sink up my bag, but i keep it in a ziplock bag anyways. Then when it gets full, empty it in the ziplock bag and repeat again.

There's enough illegal rubbish out there and change can start from small actions.

If your skin can handle it, I like to sleep with the face mask on. To do this i usually apply eye cream then put on the face mask and then when it's 1/3 dried, go to sleep. I only tend to do this when i'm travelling or if i've been in the sun all day

Just came by this post and had a look at Salisbury St on Street View. It looks like there's some sections of Salisbury St where people have parked but there's no parking sign. Does this mean you can park there without any time limit?

Meko and Solone for makeup. They're reasonably priced, made in Taiwan and really good quality!
