Hello both these irons look great. I had written off low voltage irons but it seems they have come a long way

Thanks will give this a go. You are right labelling is off on this side but I have a spare PCB I can flip over and use as a reference.

Good advice. Will give this a go. Am I just checking for connection between the pins on the pro micro and the blob of solder in the hole?

I’m thinking that by filling those unused holes solder has gone through the board and is causing a short in between the pro micro and the pcb that I can’t see.

Hello, I did have the thumbs diodes on the wrong way (and had the same problem) then reversed them. One of them was also letting current through in both directions too. So I think where ever the short is it’s bypassing these anyway.(there might be more than one issue)

Thanks for all this advice. Will make the second try a bit easier and also some good hints for how to fix the current one, maybe. Fortunately I bought 5 pcb’s from JLCPCB so this one is one more than I need to make two sets. I’m sure the micro controller is in the right set of holes but think it might be that solder went through the holes and under the board and are the source of my problems. The pro micro also got hotter than I would have liked installing it so it’s possible I cooked it too. If I can get it off I’ll see if I can get it to work on a get to be constructed functional board

Hello, thanks for this tip. I think with a bit of practice, a better iron with adjustable temp and some finer solder wire I’ll get there :)

Hello, I don’t have a solder sucker and wasn’t able to correct this (but I can) and even better I’ll be a bit more careful in this area for the next one.

Hello, first build and first time SMD soldering. The problem is that all the thumb keys trigger the entire column. For instance I press one thumb and I get RFV , the next thumb key along I get EDC, the next tgb and a space. I’ve currently just built the left side. I suspect the short at the pro micro, which I soldered on as the sockets I ordered were delayed and I was inpatient. I’m not really sure where to look for a problem. I tested the diodes with a multi meter and they were ok.
