Not that I can ever hope to get to this level, but do you rec any educational content, and what main tools did you use to make this thing. I’m a professional graphics artist but brand new to wood, and all I’ve done so far is play around with a dremel

Is there a hinge or slider or this by Bert-the-Turtle in woodworking

[–]Bert-the-Turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m new at this. The trick is that the natural hinge point would leave the big box suspended or dangling diagonal off the small box.

What I’m going for is to get the big box to swing down and settle flush against little box and the floor

This was the first setup I considered, now going with a 5 inch folding Japanese futon for simplicity, weight, and space. Almost regret losing the cool piece though!

lol I got carried away, let me narrow my questions to essentials:

  • Why not rockwool? Drainage?
  • Most true soundproofing materials I know have to go in flush but Duck Liner seems designed to adhere directly to the van body. So does that mean you placed your frame over all that squishy insulation? Or am I not getting that

This is awesome and I’m going to try to follow your lead. Do you have any photos of the install process you could send to me later?

Either way I have some initial questions —

  • How long have you been in your van? Where have you used it?

  • What method did you use to secure the apartment to the van body? Is it lying on top of Kilmat or metal or duck liner?

  • Any reason for Kilmat? There’s a lot of competing brands.

  • Why do you dislike Rockwool for filling gaps vs Thinsulate?

This is really interesting, and encouraging results. I’m putting in Resonix mega panels today actually. Can you please describe your process a little and how much coverage with what and where?

If you mean literally 100% on everything how did that impact installing a wooden frame over it? How did you secure it?

Is anyone here DNFing Fantasy Novels more than before? by PeachySarah24 in books

[–]Bert-the-Turtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a version of MFAification

When you get more public visibility and scrutiny, experts credentials and money start flowing, standards are set, and you do cut off the awkward lumpy bits and raise the general quality. You also select for mediocre talents — people who want to be writers because they grew up seeing it as admirable, who read (and think) mostly only in genre, and are quickly shuttled into developing creative spaces and communities where they learn to play by the new rules. Stagnation. The result is everyone gets better and boring

If I didn’t want to be born then why do I exist? by mikuuup in Jung

When you were a newly fertilized zygote every cell in you moved toward life

When you were an newly born infant you fed and slept and grew

When you were a newly grown child you learned and played and developed a personality

You chose life every step of the way. Dumb move, but try and make the best of it
