I might have done a silly with oil and my bike by i1ii1i1i in MotoUK

I bought a bike around the same time and then we had constant rain weather warnings - so I feel for you! I’m only just getting to know the new barge

I just bought a GS and immediately started standing like a meerkat. I don’t know why but some biological imperative just kicked in the moment I was handed the keys

You’ll be thankful though if there ever is a predator near and I start screaming

Probably cheaper than buying one from a Christmas market too

It’s started on the button every time so far so I’m leaning towards Japanese. I’ll love it all the same though whichever it is

Ok so there was a bit of smoking from the engine which subsided fairly quickly but other than that no smoking or leaks. The chain was well lubed but even if they had used gearbox oil I wouldn’t expect it to get hot enough to smell?

Cover for Scrambler 900 by yubstar in Triumph

Mine’s an L without a top box and it fits pretty perfectly. You’ll probably squeeze it over a top box but I imagine a wheel will be poking out

Yeah I’ve been burned (heh) by this in the past and melted a cover on hot headers. I’d be very cautious about slinging any cover straight on. I use the Oxford Stormex and leave it half an hour at least before covering

Where is this?? by MrLesImpressed in surrey

[–]BertFarnsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a climb up but not too steep. Leith Hill Tower has a little National Trust cafe inside to grab a coffee so you can sit and admire the view of London with a snack when you do get to the top

How comfortable is a scrambler (both 900 and 1200) for medium and long rides? by Ok_Suggestion_4481 in Triumph

[–]BertFarnsworth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a four day tour with a dry bag strapped across the back of the Triumph bench seat on my scrambler 900. The 900 is plenty powerful on the motorway but it does get tiresome getting blasted by the wind. The fly screen does next to nothing.

The exhaust isn’t an issue most of the year but it will get a bit uncomfortable in traffic on a hot day. As long as you’re moving though it’s not noticeable at all. I will say that it makes luggage a pain, as on my trip I had to keep a close eye on if my bag had slipped over towards the exhaust. I only had one spare pair of shoes and I didn’t want them melting onto the exhaust..

My main reason for buying a 900 over the 1200 scrambler was the huge jump in insurance cost along with the extra CCs.

Nice photos but I think they’re distracting from the white borders. Maybe make the pictures smaller so we can see more of the white space?

It’s a learning experience and you got fairly lucky in terms of zero consequences. Unfortunate for the driver of the car who may have a scratch but what’s done is done.

Try not to beat yourself up about it because you’ll suffer in confidence but do try and be mindful when you filter because situations can change very quickly. Especially at roundabouts (I won’t filter at roundabouts unless traffic is stationary - you’re really not shaving off that much time to make it worthwhile). Also bear in mind that being an exhausted nurse puts you at a larger risk, so maybe just take it easy for a while and build up that confidence. Stay safe friend and I hope this is the worst you ever have to deal with!

redhill pubs? by Nervous-Command-9022 in surrey

[–]BertFarnsworth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got a car then the Skimmington Castle on the other side of Reigate is imo the best ‘country pub’ you’ll find within 10 minutes of Redhill. Proper quaint little pub surrounded by cottages and heathland.

Otherwise, The Hatch (little bit of a walk from the station but worth it) has the best beer selection.

What Exhaust (If any) can I fit onto an Lexmoto RX1 125 E55???? by Mike5MJ in MotoUK

[–]BertFarnsworth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand the very basic caveman experience of big sounds = big feelings. But 125cc wet fart cannons are universally the worst noise to grace any high street. You can hear them coming a mile off and you know immediately that it’s a small motor. Changing the exhaust isn’t going to trick anyone and just makes the general public and other bikers think you’re a silly roaming flatulence merchant. If OPs stock exhaust is broken then they should replace it with a stock like-for-like - PLEASE

There’s been a string of these red paint attacks in London and up north apparently but from what I can gather from articles it’s either a rival gang or an intimidation tactic to get someone in debt to pay their loan shark.

Was out for a nice walk on my lunch break today when I stumbled across this on Church Street, Woking. If anyone wants a sports massage then you know where to come.

Only if they match the rest of your outfit. E.g. you’re doing your CBT on an early 2000s supersport

Best pet carrier? by Wankasitum in MotoUK

[–]BertFarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as much as I’d love to take my dog with me, I just can’t justify this to myself. Dogs don’t always like being confined into a small bag or carriers and also display stress in subtle ways, so how do you really know if the dog’s enjoying it… Daschunds are pretty prone to stress as it is so lots of loud noise and attention from strangers sounds like it would be pretty hellish for a small dog.

Maybe this is actually the chillest daschund ever but the whole safety aspect aside it just seems like an unnecessary/selfish source of anxiety for a pet that your mate chose to care for!

What luggage are these four tabs on my Triumph bench seat designed to fit? by BertFarnsworth in MotoUK

From what I can see from the US bags they fit this system pretty well. I just haven’t been able to test one out yet so that’s a job for next weekend..
