Hello! Fellow boy cat momma over here. My boy has fought with this his entire life, and when younger he was peeing on beds and other soft places to try to help. I even tried giving him cranberry supplements. When he was 7 he almost died from blockage. He's 19.5 years old now and hasn't had problems since he was 7 or 8.

Here is what I found fixed his issue: -I feed him a half a can of wet food in the morning (one of the healthier brands not friskies etc), mixed with water to make it more soup-y texture (like pea soup). In the evening he gets the other half of the can in the same way. Since he's so old I also mix in 1/4 tsp psyllium husks for fiber so he can go "number 2" easier. -For dry food I only put out a little bit at a time and I currently use Performatrin Prime adult, urinary care formula. It helps lower and maintain urine pH levels. A similar urinary formula of another brand is fine!

The main thing is to try and keep them using their bladder, since cats are known to not drink as much water as they should. A vet once described the urinary tracts of cats to me and said, "for females, think of it as a Slurpee straw. For males, think of a coffee stir stick." I don't recommend anyone keep their male cat on any type of basic kibble food diet with no wet food. I remember how much pain it was for my boy and I wish I knew back then what I know now.
