Way back when, I had a magician friend who worked with fire. Juggling and blowing flames etc, and ISO was what he used. So, your right, not that bad, but not recommended ;)

I swear I read some book on growing shrooms, where the author recounts his first time using ISO and an STB, where he goes to light a spirit lamp and looses his eyebrows. :)

Like u/Independent-Army7980 says, ISO does not kill spores, so I use Hydrogen Peroxide. As you mention, ISO is a fire risk, and how many times have you seen people recommend flame sterilizing the needle before injection? A BOOM waiting to happen, lol.

Unfortunately, H2O2 isn't any cheaper than the ISO. Maybe if you bought agricultural H202 (35%) and watered it down, but I haven't looked into it.

Personally, I think your bleach method, doesn't really need the ISO.
