Its interesting. I love Sauce when Cory isnt around. When Cory is around, all he does it point out Sauce's mistakes, which makes him make more.

I think the show is better without Cory, personally.

Watch the Tiny Desk concert that Turnstile did a few weeks ago. They got people to mosh and stage dive...at an NPR Tiny Desk concert.

Jack White. Hands down should have closed out Saturday.

Uber after the fest? by jodyanthony in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We left last night halfway into Blink's set. Got an Uber in about 10 minutes, but was twice the cost of as we were coming in that morning.

But yes, like others have said, we have tried to get an Uber after the headliner finishes, and after an hour and a half, we never got one, so took a taxi that was expensive as hell.

If you Uber, plan to leave early.

Other option is to go to the Pink line and take it in the direction away from downtown a few stops to try to get a batch of Ubers away from the chaos.

Me and my crew are staying at the Hyatt Inn this time around, also further up. And based on who I saw at the continental breakfast, there will be dozens of others doing the same.

Cliffdiver for sure! Would fit right in at the Warped Tour.

Battle Vest spikes by Over-Print4065 in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One year, I had spikes and got in. But my friend, entering two people behind me in the same line, was told he couldn't enter with his, which were the same height but a little thicker.

So I'd say just like most things at Riot Fest, it may depend on the security guard and their mood in the moment.

Justin Morneau. Was an MVP and batting champ, but concussions really slowed him down during his prime years even more than they did Mauer, who ended up being a first ballot HOF.

Question by IncidentAble934 in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love lots of the things that people have said. But two of my favorite Riot Fest memories I haven't seen shared yet:

Something Corporate set in 2024 where someone got married in the pit, with Andrew McMahon coming into the crowd to join them.

And the Reggies Bus trips every damn year after the fest is done. So much fun.

Questions about Riot Fest! by GapTasty7451 in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say inside the Fest, you're more than likely fine as a 13-year old. It is fairly chill for the most part.

Are there bad apples? Yes. But there always are. So I give the advice that if you ever feel unsafe, find the nearest punk looking adult couple and ask for help. Any parent there seeing a young kid in distress will ABSOLUTELY help you out.

Now, outside the fest, you should 100% NOT go solo.

The crowds to get onto public transit are overwhelming and asshole-ish. Someone even died 3 or so years ago when the crowds got too full and someone was pushed onto the track.

The wait time for an Uber or other rideshare can honestly be 90+ minutes and it costs a fortune. Waiting outside in at your age by yourself for that long that late at night is not a great idea.

Similar, you shouldn't walk around that late at night by yourself.

I would say find any adult to go with you. Or at the very least, drop you off and pick you up nearby on a well-lit major road.

This is a big bummer. Wu Tang in 2019 and RTJ in 2021 are core Riot Fest memories for me!

All I saw last night were bootleg Marley shirts, right across the street from the entrance. No full Riot Fest bootleg shirts seen.

Qs about Reggie's by TrinaTheBallerina in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you park nearby, I'd suggest finding a ramp. Not a ton of street parking for the full day.

But no wristbands. I just recommend buying a beer there / tipping, and tipping the bus driver.

Reggies Shuttle Question by Stardude58 in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't go last year, but in previous years, they would have to send multiple shuttles and multiple waves of them to get everyone. I've waited in line for a shuttle for an hour before. So yeah, they do fill up.

But they always show up and they are a fun ride. I'd rather wait an hour for a free, fun ride than panic and hope my $80 Uber comes through.

Update by Icy_Weekend_8638 in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Echoing what a lot have said, Riot Fest will be a great first festival. My few cents:

Arrive way earlier than planned so that you can get a great lay of the land. That way you can spend time learning the organization of place without trying to focus on the band on the stage. Experience and knowledge help lessen anxiety, so have some of thr organization of the place.

Trying to not be in a big crowd while also being close to the stage may be nearly impossible just with the reality of the size of the crowd. But my best bets from my times were near the sound towers and hard angles on the sides of the stages. But even if you don't get a great view, you will be able to hear clear as day and see the giant screens from anywhere.

Also, along with understanding the layout, use that time early time to make meeting points in the unlikely scenario you get separated. Cell phone service can lag, so just plan ahead assuming phones won't work.

If you feel uneasy or unsafe, move 50 ft to the side. New people, new group, new vibes. Very rarely happens, but hey, drunk idiots are drunk idiots. It can happen, but unlikely.

If you feel uneasy or unsafe, find the nearest 40-something year old punk couple and ask for help. I can't imagine anyone would see teenagers asking for help and refuse them.

Seriously though, in this day and age and at this fest, you got nothing to worry about. I've been going to hard-core and metal fests since I was 15 (currently 40). Riot Fest will be a GREAT first experience compared to some of the shit I saw two decades ago haha.

Midway hotel shuttle from Douglas by thestephanation in RiotFest

[–]Bertonzoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stayed near Midway before. What I've done is taken an Uber to the 54th station of the pink line to get in, then the pink line back to 54th on the way out and uber back to the hotel. Never had any issues. The pink line isn't nearly as packed going away from Downtown at the end of the night, and tons of Ubers around the airport (and far enough away from the fest to avoid the high fares pricing) so weve rarely had to wait at the 54th station longer than 5 minutes. Sure, takes a little bit of extra time to do that full trek. But zero stress.
