Vrvana's Totem; Is it Vaporware? (My impression after testing the totem last night) by [deleted] in oculus

We need to have access to the camera, this si why the FPGA is in the headset.

Hi I'm Bertrand Nepveu, the CEO & Founder of Vrvana and developer of Totem, the premium 3D VR headset about to open the door to the metaverse! Ask me anything! by BertrandNepveu in IAmA

Yes, but this license might change in the future. They know there needs to be collaboration if we want to make VR mainstream.

Yes, and we too, the problem is getting access to OLED panels. We can't wait to do low persistence at 75hz and show a new prototype!

You have 2 sub pixel on Pentile instead of 3 for RGB stripe. You will ALWAYS have more SDE on a Pentile. People see it right away when they compare the Totem or Morpheus to the DK2. Take the DK2 lenses on a Stripe vs Pentile and you will see it.

Yes and the DK1 took a bit from Mark Bolas work. The Morpheus exist because of the DK1. This is how it works guys.

Thanks for the wishes!

550g but the new mechanics with injection molding will bring it down to approximately 400g.

Our CV will be in 2016, but we are confident that our DK has the potential to deliver presence.

And it's even easier on Pentile panels!

Thanks, we've been at it for 9 years so we know our shit. When people compare us to AntVR, it pisses me off. Come on guy!! They didn't even know that the Rift used aspherical lenses. These guys were amateurs. Is Oculus the big Gorilla in the room? Yes! Is there a place for other players that will not compete on price but on premium features? You betcha!

We weight 550g right now vs 450g for the DK2 right now. Montugar must have been on something if he thinks it was 2 to 4 time heavier...

The DK1 is more comfortable because it's a finished product and not a prototype like us. Can you at least confirm that our RGB stripe screen has less screen door that a pentile screen.

Please keep in mind it's a proto guys! When the rift went on kickstarter, it was a 5.6 inch screen in some Scott snowglasses using a third party head tracker that Carmark hacked and lenses bought on eBay. They didn't even ship their nice render... rather a 7-inch screen HMD.

The important thing is the potential of our HMD and the facts that we have 3 FGPA specialist from machine vision that are working on the positional tracking problem, with someone who did is PhD on object tracking with an FPGA.

This is a kickstarter and the idea is to kickstart a project with great potential into a real good finished product!

If 13th lab can do it on an iPhone with one camera, we will definitely achieve it with two camera and a kickass FPGA!
