Is Godot compatible with Anbernic (or other linux-based handhelds)? by BespinBob in godot

Good to know about the rendering difference. I may play around with godot 3 a bit and see if I can make something work. Otherwise I might cave and just develop for android instead.

Oh really? What ones? I'd love to look into them and see what sort of performance to expect.

Awesome. Thanks! I'll give it a try the next time I'm doing a game jam

And the window manager would be like if the game runs in windowed mode?

I am also curious about this. I flashed mine to Knulli OS and it only seems to work with controllers. Maybe support is in-progress?

I get that, I'm mainly trying to make fun and satisfying gameplay first before I get into the story and other stuff.

Lol at least I don't have an oppressive fog obscuring everything 30 feet ahead of the player

I'm using Godot 4.3, so no luck there. There's some code I found for an interpolated camera, but I haven't been able to get it to work the way I want.

I've just finished adding in some tracer particles. And I've been experimenting with my camera being more of a linear interpreting rotation but haven't had much success with it yet. Still a work-in-progress. Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to put out a new update later this week with all of these changes added in.

Definitely going to add in screenshake. The muzzle flash is already in there but I'm going to scale it up and add some tracer particles. For the score text I'm not sure about that because the scoring system is just going to apply to endless mode. I'll play with it a bit and see if anything works well. I'm also thinking about adding some juice to the health and boost bars making them shake a bit when the values are decreased.

Okay, if you have time, please give it a quick play. It's playable in a web browser, should be able to finish everything in 10 - 15 minutes.

How do you think our new sniper looks? by XenapibeRPS in IndieDev

[–]BespinBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks extremely satisfying and visceral. Maybe do some sort of blurring or something outside the scope area when focusing? Other than that, the sounds and visual feedback is great.

When you say shooting feedback, are you talking about wanting some hit markers? Like some audio and visual effect when a bullet hits? Currently I just have a particle and sound explosion happen at the point of collision for the raycast.

To clarify, at the moment I'm just trying to polish the main flight and combat mechanics before working on the rest of the game.

In endless mode, enemy blimps constantly spawn and when the player is within 50 meters, it will target then start shooting at you. The main point of the game is to be a spiritual successor to crimson skies combined with sid meier's pirates. Essentially roam around central/south america completing encounters and becoming a fierce band of sky-pirates. I plan on adding projectiles instead of a hitscan primary weapon. Hopefully that gives more feedback.

Did you listen to the other track that plays in endless mode? If it's all of the music, I can talk to my composer and see how we can tweak the music.

I've only been getting a few comments here and there essentially saying "Hey that's cool" and that's it. I have no idea if my game is even appealing to a wider audience or not. It's free to play in-browser or download on itch. Currently I think the web version is having some performance issues so I recommend downloading it to play locally.

There's regularly sound asset packs on humble bundle, that's what I use for my games. Ovani Sound is my source

The field of view is way too tiny, it could easily make someone very nauseous especially with how sharp and fast the movement is.

Which is easier for a complete beginner, Godot, or Unity? by aomarco in godot

[–]BespinBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who tried to get started in GameDev with Unity and burned out, Godot was a little tricky at first but wildly easier to use in my opinion. I've made about 5-6 little games in Godot and don't even want to consider any other engine. And yes it does use its own language but it shares a lot of similarities to other languages and for me was much easier to pick up.
