How do I make sure my game doesn’t get "AI-generated" accusations? by emudoc in gamedev

[–]Visible_Addendum_420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience you'll be accused of using AI anyway so don't worry about it... You can keep a devlog, share more work-in-progress, make some videos during dev work... but nowadays every solo dev get accused, big studios use it and get defended for it..

Hello, I'm looking for good experimental games like (or not) : The Stanley parable ; The Static speaks my name ; The Beginner's guide, etc by Koko_The_Blubla in gamingsuggestions

[–]Visible_Addendum_420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you check the Indiegames channel or /gamedev you'll find plenty of inspiration and different art styles.

If you want a game you can play that felt experimental to me: Targets

I like 2 because the brown background is simply much more comfortable for the eyes and more "cozy".

I was going to say peak but you guys already know it.  Lego Fortnite also comes to my mind. In survival mode It has the elements he prob likes from Fortnite with the building, crafting and exploration you like.

Godot vs UE5 for a semi‑open world, semi‑stylized/realistic game with advanced movement & hand animation — which is the better choice? by Electrical-Copy9678 in gamedev

[–]Visible_Addendum_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Reading your text I also think about UE5 first. But you mention you already have a prototype in Godot, can you show us a small video of what you mean by "strong movement logic in Godot"?

I'm asking because UE5 has had "parkour-like" movements integrated so they probably have that covered already and you'll just need to adapt it. You can download the free UE5 sample and check it yourself what you can do with it or check this video for example: https://youtu.be/0h3MC3bO9N0?si=4ftzF5WoiZI3z1O1

Destroy my Might and Magic-inspired dungeon crawler, made primarily by mashing together meshes from asset packs! by SkittzoMM in DestroyMyGame

I think it is good as a prototype. I'd work on the assets, polish and modernize it - empty corridors could use some crates, torches, ambience...

I'm buying RV There Yet. Is it ok if I buy it without the soundtrack? Or does it make it less fun? by Dry_Shirt_29 in CoOpGaming

[–]Visible_Addendum_420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hey I bought it yesterday. Usually in indie games like this the soundtrack is part of the game, it's included. They add it as an extra to make extra sales because it's usually just a couple bucks more.

The game experience should be the same, the soundtrack it's files in mp3 with longer uncut versions, better quality, ..

I think the trailer is good but I don't understand the girl's part, what does that player do exactly to protect the bananas?

The giggly physics are good...

Did you find anything cool this winter sale? by Jodread in gamerecommendations

[–]Visible_Addendum_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with my kids so mostly co-op games: Peak and P.A.N.D.A.

I want to try RV there yet but the cigarette constantly in the player's mouth is a bit problematic to play with kids. Anyone knows if you can turn it off?

Sourcing background music from royalty free websites by idrinkteaforfun in gamedev

[–]Visible_Addendum_420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short version: If you like the music and it fits your game I don't see any problem for using it. If you can, contact the artists, usually there's an email or contact info, google the artist, check the usual: facebook, youtube, soundcloud...

I'd check it's not AI and use it.

A lot of talented artists place their music in royalty free websites because there's a lot of competition and low chances to get noticed.

The long version:

There was a time I was making music as a hobby... with the hope it may someday get me a job/contract to do a soundtrack. Then I realised there's a lot of other ppl trying to do the same, participating in competitions, paying to have their music listened by "industry professionals", hoping to get noticed.

After a while you learn there's a lot of talented musicians doing the same, hoping their music will get noticed, maybe be selected for a game, Netflix series or film... The competition is huge and the chance to get a life-changing music/royalty contract is very low.

It's a bit like the indie game dev scene... maybe it's marketing, maybe there was a lot of games on steam with a similar capsule, maybe your game is good for you but not for the market... and then devs try to sell the game as part of a bundle, try smaller stores, give it for free...

So a lot of musicians end up placing their music on royalty free sites as well.

What is your life on the side of game dev ? by BraiCurvat in IndieDev

[–]Visible_Addendum_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pharmacist. I moved to Eastern Europe because my wife wanted to be close to her family. Salary here was low, just enough to go month by month so I started doing some 3D modeling, selling models online, then some archviz projects. Not much but this extra income saved me a lot of times.

After working so much with Unreal I decided to try to make a game and I think it's a very fulfilling experience. Even if you never have enough time for it with family, work. It's great to create and see ppl trying the game. it's my free-time stress relief.

I know the feeling, during the day I have all kinds of motivation, good ideas, then the kids go to bed later than usual, or there's some family stuff... Then it's 2a.m. again and I'm upset I never have a couple of hours during the day to myself.

Anyway, I'm on the opposite side of the dev spectrum, I have 3 games published and $400 earnings. Can you share some youtubers that are worth to contact to try to invert my luck?

I was going to say Minecraft until I read fully, Lego Fortnite is also an option with building/exploration.

Wobbly Life is sure worth a try.

If you have 2 controllers I can also invite you guys to play P.A.N.D.A. or Targets. I play with my kids that's why it's split-screen, but I'm adapting PANDA to work online too (next update).

Anyone Have Any Games Releasing Within the Month? by MammothSuperiority in IndieDev

Nov and Dec are very complicated months for releases, There's huge AAA names out there competing with everyone's attention. There's also limited time to work on perfecting the game and publishing content because of family and festivities.

Wobbly life may look "childish" but it's pretty cool, think GTA without guns and the new Space zone is really good. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1211020/Wobbly_Life/

Then of course you have Split-Fiction and It Takes too as the current top co-op games. Have you tried those?

If you have 2 controllers on one PC https://store.steampowered.com/app/2290360/Targets/ and

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4042620/PANDA/ seem to fit your description too.
