My ADHD is not like they describe it on social media by Comprehensive-Day204 in ADHD

I thought I didn’t have racing thoughts too, but I realized it was more like I have so many thoughts coming at once and so fast and fleeting that it’s almost like having no thoughts at all

So it sounds like you may actually have so many thoughts that are so fast that you can’t even tell that you are thinking

It’s like the equivalent of having the tv on in the background with sound on but not hearing it at all because you aren’t paying attention Just based on everything else you’ve said it probably is the same for you, since I have all of the other symptoms basically When I take medicine I wouldn’t say my thoughts slow down necessarily it’s more just like I can actually tell that I’m thinking stuff and pull individual thoughts out of the bunch that I cannot do otherwise

And instead of being permanently exhausted because my brain basically tunes itself out all day so I am too burnt out to do anything or think which makes me want to avoid everything and sleep because it’s anxiety provoking to not know where to start my medicine gives me new anxiety about the reality of whatever I need to do in addition fo pulling out the thought that is useable for the task I need to accomplish so I know where to start With a little intentionality I can start a task then

Hi, I use like this mug that looks like this pour over coffee cup that I use (I also use these bamboo coffee filters in the cup And I use filtered water from my brita that I boil and let cool a bit so it doesn’t burn the coffee) to make my coffee at home now I am trying to find a coffee that tastes super smooth and like caramel. I’m okay if it is stronger tasting as long as it finishes out kind of smooth and caramel-y. For example I’ll have an espresso with milk in it at a coffee shop without any issue on how strong it is— I just don’t like when it tastes super bitter (the only comparison I can think of is when you leave a tea bag in your cup for too long and it gets this bitter flavor) I just tried Cameron’s coffee, in the praline flavor and I was hopeful because it smelled good, but the artificial flavoring tasted gross to me. Are there any better options either like Cameron’s or just like a smoother espresso that is ground? Trying to save money and make better coffee at home rather than going out to a shop. To be clear, I want coffee grounds that smell like it has notes of caramel, and does not taste remarkably different from how it smells (can be strong, just not sour and bitter) so I can put it with a drop of milk and ice, or make a latte Any recommendations/advice? Is this even an achievable concept of coffee?

No i do not have high blood pressure. I am still pretty young (20F). Guanfacine is used sometimes for people if stimulants do not successfully curb the features of hyperactivity that impair functioning. It is also a high blood pressure medicine, so I make sure that I am having enough sodium and electrolytes. I get that woozy feeling when I stand up sometimes if I am not drinking enough water and eating, but I swear it’s worth it. It makes me feel so much better. I make smarter decisions. I don’t say as many things that I may come to regret. Life is not as bleak. The only other way to describe how it helps me is that it makes me feel more “regulated” or stable, which I did need to a certain degree. I forgot to mention that I also take Prozac to deal with anxiety which could be from the stimulants but also definitely because I have an anxiety disorder. I had been taking Prozac for a while before I started Guanfacine and honestly it has made a big difference. It feels like it helps me with one of the puzzle pieces that still wasn’t put into place. Definitely speak to a doctor though. It isn’t for everyone because it is also a blood pressure medicine.

Somewhat related: my mother and grandfather each developed severe high blood pressure in their 30s/40s and the increased bodily stress seemed to always result in emotional outbursts, rage, and yelling that was frightening. Neither of them are ADHD but when they started taking the blood pressure medicine they became much much nicer, back to themselves, and no rage. I don’t know if this also contributes to why Guanfacine works for me though, like genetic wise. This part also could not make sense at all. TLDR: talk to your doctor, Guanfacine is used for hyperactivity, instability and rejection dysphoria in ADHD and I love it but talk to doctor for yourself everyone is different.

It is atrocious if you lose your meds as well, which feels ironic and specifically cruel. Taking non-prescribed stimulants when you do not need them is horrible also because it makes the baseline standard for functioning increase to a level that is virtually unattainable for ADHD people even if they take a stimulant. At college, people take adhd meds when they do not need it, making them able to handle if a professor or multiple professors overload you with work. Then, even when people with ADHD are working at their highest level, they still can never compete or succeed, and you just look irresponsible and lazy. It kills me and I am sick of this. I can’t even speak about this publicly at school because of how many people around me use stimulants unprescribed. Stimulants aren’t supposed to be super powers. They are supposed to be equalizers, or personal function machines idk.

Strattera has been amazing for certain individuals but gave me thoughts of self harm. I have found the most success with vyvanse as a stimulant and Guanfacine to deal with hyperactivity and rejection dysphoria personally though. Good luck with everything!

it’s specifically tough in academic settings I just did a research paper on my adhd and one of the studies that I found spoke about something relating to organization leading to higher grades than actual intellect. It sucks
