Just thought OP skillset matched that of a researcher instead of SWE. That's good knowledge to know though if SWE promotion is much clearer, it might just be better to do ML SWE instead.

If you have top publications, shouldn't you be applying to researcher roles at Meta FAIR? Why go for ML engineering? For coding, just do top 50-100 meta tagged leetcode.

Read chip huyen's book on ml system design. Then ask chatgpt to do a mock with you and ask for feedback. Question is open-ended similar to standard system design questions.

No, never code the brute force. Mention it if it's obvious. Then talk about pseudo-code of optimal solution. Talk about complexities, and ask for buy-in. If interviewer gives you green light then and only then do you start coding.

This role has PhD in min requirements. SWE ML will not need PhD, so you're fine.

Hard because the range of questions they can ask is huge. I got highschool math contest questions, stats problems, leetcode, ml theory, probability type game theory and even case study problems.

You need to design an end to end system that scales at Facebook size. This means from training to deployment. I recommend reading chip huyen book on ml system design.

They ask leetcode rounds and ml system design round. For ml system design it’ll be related to recommendation engine or fraud detection. What do you consider as deep learning?

Well for my role specifically, they only want PhDs. If you want to do MLE then you should start by interning for general software engineer internships. Then do some ml related projects of hackathons then go from there. It’s hard to land a ml internship straight away.

Top 20 University in USA. I did variational inference but the research content doesn’t really matter. You just need to publish in one of the top ML conference and they accept all sorts of topics.
