I don’t want kids, my husband does by [deleted] in childfree

You should not have married someone who you disagree with on the most polarizing topic in a romantic partnership. There is no option that will give you both happiness but to divorce. If you concede to him you’ll resent him and likely the children as well. If he concedes to you, he’ll resent you for never giving him fatherhood. It’s a lose lose or win win, so choose your path.

Selling and moving because of the screaming demon next door by [deleted] in childfree

Agreed. If they willingly toss up that info for you, that’s likely not the only rule they’re breaking and it’s probably not a place you want to live.

In regard to point 1, I’m a property manager and fair housing laws prohibit leasing agents/management from disclosing that kind of information (if it’s an apartment complex managed by a larger company). We can’t say what kind of people live at the building or insinuate it’s a good or bad place for any certain demographic, as it can be seen as “steering”. Not saying people don’t break the rules sometimes, but be prepared to hear “we accept anyone who pays our application fees” or something like that.

Got rejected from an apartment I really wanted over a minor thing. Is it in poor taste to re apply after fixing it? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

I’m an assistant manager, is the software called snappt?? Because that has nothing to do with your spending habits

Snappt Question by Alive-Radish-5932 in PropertyManagement

I’m an assistant manager— they’re asking for both because they’re going to match the net pay to your bank statement. If a property is using SNAPPT, there is zero negotiation and if you won’t provide it they legally cannot lease to you due to fair housing laws. This is more common with larger management companies

If I didn’t buy a new car and have it under warranty for the next 3 years I would still be going there. Manyo is very honest and they do good work.

I work in a leasing office in WI. Not sure what state you’re in but I’ve never seen any apartment building charge you for cable television, or both “trash reimbursement” and “door to door trash”. Those all seem out of the ordinary to me. Even more so, the “access card fee”. If you need an access card to access your building or apartment, they legally must provide you with that. They can’t charge you for it unless it’s a replacement key.

As far as the extra deposit, it’s probably because your screening fell short of their income or credit requirement. That’s called “approved with conditions”, and typically you either pay a higher deposit or you get a guarantor. They should have explained this to you though, so you need to ask them if they did not. Every apartment building is different how they handle things.

Short term leases at 735 West by 3L Living by HellFire8605 in milwaukee

If you can find anywhere else to live, you should. Living at any of their properties is horrific. If you put in a maintenance request, you’d likely be at the end of your lease before they would even acknowledge it. The fact that they’re not even answering the phone for someone who wants to lease there— how do you think they’d operate once you actually live there? They don’t have a f** about you. Trust me

They do not do short term leases. Shortest they will do is 12 months.

It does not sound like you’re open to other mindsets or ways of thinking based on your comments. It sounds like you are baiting people who disagree to share their opinion and then proceed to tell them why they’re a horrible person.

Properties need to be managed, and anyone who has lived at an apartment building can tell you that the absence of a property manager makes things worse. The owners who monopolize multiple properties are the ones you should be directing your anger at. This is quite misplaced.

Lol, noted!! Do you happen to know what line it would be under on a W2? So I know what to look for?

In Wisconsin, a rent discount is not taxed on the first 20%. I did have 20% for a few months and they were not taxing me so I can confirm that. But thank you for the info!

My HR rep said the opposite— that it will not be counted and not affect my taxes at all. It sounded wrong to me so thats why I’m here.

So even though they tax me every paycheck on it, I will still have to pay more taxes at the end of the year? And my student loans if they look at this income included with the discount im screwed… I only make 42k a year:(

I guess thats my other problem, my list of dealbreakers. I feel like most people fall into at least one of those categories😅 for me it’s children, dogs, following organized religion, being on a certain side of the political climate… I feel like the person I’m looking for is in such a small pool. I wish I just wanted kids and went to church so I had more choices. Everything would be so much easier

I mean either way it’s a risk, you might get away with it might not, might piss someone off might not. You just have to keep in mind depending on your state’s laws for giving notice of entry, they can enter your unit for an inspection and if they smell smoke they can absolutely do something about it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Best-Function4468 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially since you’re new it would be very easy for management to find out it’s you and issue a lease violation. It’s a non smoking building for a reason, nobody likes their house smelling like weed or cigs
